Can 2 people is it or is it a 1 person only console?
Are the game options very limited?

More than 2 can play. DD has one and loves it. Games are expensive though.

You get 2 controllers (called joycons) with it so you can play 2 player games straight away.
Some games support more players but you need to buy more controllers as each person needs one. I think there is also a mode where you can link more than one console so even more people can play certain games but we haven't done that so it's not something I know about really.

Games wise, there seems to be a good variety of genres. Best having a look online to see what titles are available and if they are the kind of thing that you / your dc would enjoy but most genres seem represented.

Our dc use it a lot, it is very useful to take out too. DH and I don't use it but we are more pc gamers than console gamers.

Mine are desperate for one. I think the big appeal is that you can use it as an old school console or take it out and about.

My main concern is that we'll end up re-buying games.

Me and DH have one, Mario Kart is great for playing with 2+ people and there are so many tracks and modes it’s defintiely worth it. You can also play Super Mario Odyssey with two players.

I also find it handy that you can play on the mini console screen or the tv depending on the situation.

We got one for Xmas as a family present. Has 2 joycons so 2 players straight away, you can get more. It's definitely a "family" console. Mario kart brilliant, super Mario odyssey favourite with my 9 year old. My 37 year old husband loves Zelda and I have Crash Bandicoot remastered for it. Looking forward to the pokemon game coming out at the end of the year, it's the original red/blue one I had on a game boy colour remastered/updated. You can also use it as a handheld so not hogging the tv...

Loads of multiplayer - Nintendo are the king of couch co-op this generation, Sony/Microsoft haven't bothered with it. For most games you don't even need to buy a second controller, the two 'ears' on the switch each act as a solo controller for multiplayer. (Having said that, the Pro Controller is a lovely upgrade if you have the spare cash)

Loads of choice of games - not only the headliners like Mario and Zelda but the Switch is the indie platform of choice now, and games start at under £2 and go up to ~£45 - buy the expensive games on cartridges not from the download shop, they're cheaper that way and you can sell them on when you're done with them. The cheaper games will be download only.

It's fricking awesome!!
We bought 7yo Ds a switch for his birthday. There are loads of games already. Mario Odyssey is amazing, there are loads that look good, but Labo is mind-blowingly different and so cool.
A great family console.

We got one at Christmas and it's been good - my favourite is doing family team for 123 Switch team battle. We haven't got a huge amount of games for it yet but have enjoyed some racing games on it. The ability to use it hand held has been good for holidays ect.

I have one and I love it. We don't have kids (fortunately, because I wouldn't want to share it with them!) and there's plenty games that would appeal. It's very much a family console, and the fact that you can play it as a hand held console or dock it to the tv make it wonderfully flexible. I can be playing on the tv and if DP wants to watch something I just pluck it out the dock and keep playing hand held. You can also play 2 player immediately by using each of the two controllers (which usually work together as a single control system) as a small individual controller.

Zelda is amazing (and I'm saying that as a 29 yr old adult).
