When a 'SOLD' board goes up outside a house, how long until the occupants leave?

The house I'm thinking of has had 'Sold subject to contract' outside it for 6 months. Today it now says 'SOLD' in big letters. Does that mean that contracts have been exchanged and completion will be at some later date? How long is the average wait from this point until the actual occupants move out? No one's moved yet at this property as all their belongings are visible through the window.

Why does it matter?
And why is this in step parenting?

Gazelda · 18/08/2018 18:47

I would have thought within the next month or two, but it very much depends on the individual situation.

oooz · 18/08/2018 18:54

Oops don't know how that happened, I'll ask for it to be moved.

Desperate for your neighbours to duck off? 😂

Bombardier25966 · 18/08/2018 19:48

Anything from a few weeks to many months. It just means an offer has been accepted, the sale could still fall through.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/08/2018 19:50

We had four months between exchange and completion.

It could be anything from same day to 6 months.

One of our neighbours had the sold board up for ages, literally months. Then it’s bsvk to bring a for sale. I assume they must have pulled out st exchange or completion. Other next door neighbour had a sold board up after two weeks then didn’t move for 7 months.

meadowmeow · 18/08/2018 20:21

Our neighbours sold sign went up in April and hey moved out yesterday

Vitalogy · 18/08/2018 20:25

Mine has been up for 6 weeks now, hoping to get a moving date any day now. I've never noticed the "sold subject to contract" change to just "sold" before though.

beingthere · 18/08/2018 20:36

😂@first response. Poster asks a question on a messsge board and the answer is “Why does it matter?” 😂

MervynBunter · 18/08/2018 20:46

Next door took a week. Four does down has had a "sold" sign up since May and still not moved out. How long's a piece of string?

MargaretDribble · 18/08/2018 20:55

5months in our case. And then when we moved we had to ask the agents to remove the sign which took another 2 weeks.
It is just useful advertising for the agents.

For what it's worth, the person in the house is my stalker and I'm bloody happy he's leaving. I've waited a long time for this. He's sick.

However long the sale takes to complete. There's no standard time. For you it can't come soon enough given your later post, but you will probably have to wait till you see a moving van to breathe a sigh of relief. Brew

MismatchedStripySocks · 19/08/2018 08:47

Definitely a ‘how long is a piece of string question’. We offered on our house when it had been on the market less than a fortnight and the’Sold stc’ sign went up about 10 weeks ago. We are finally due to exchange and complete this week 👍🏡😀
