Nice or Porto for a long weekend?

Trying to decide on a location for a long weekend, first choice (servile) is out due to flight times. Current options are Porto or Nice.... any recommendations for either? Going on October

Of those two, I would go to Nice.

Why are flight times a problem for Seville?

Some friends and dh went to Porto for a week for work recently. I sao want to go as I love port, and the port houses there do tastings.

This might help: www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/portugal/porto/
especially the article about the Douro as a wine region. Lots about tastings, hotels and what to do in that article.

Recently back from holiday in Nice which was lovely. Quite easy to have day trips out too.

Nice. My most favourite place ever. Easy to get to the likes of Monaco, St Tropez, Cannes etc Smile

Hmm! Totally confused now, ha!

I love Porto. Amazing food, good port (as you’d expect) and really interesting history. We did a great walking tour with a local historian. Pretty cheap once you’re there, particularly compared to Nice.

We went to Porto in November. I loved it. I enjoyed it much more than Nice. It's really reasonably priced. We had a whole spitroast chicken with chips, salad and beer for €13.00 one night. The next day we got The train to a little seaside town and had lunch I a beautiful fish restaurant.

Been to both, love Porto. If you go, be sure to walk down the river toward the estuary and catch the little ferry across to Alfurada on the other side. Absolutely gorgeous little village with communal laundry baths with many washing lines outside. Each lady has her own line and its so pretty there. There is also a lovely little market for fruit and veg and fish. Alfurada is predominantly a fishing village. Lovely food too. Porto is a fab compact city. There are some lovely saltwater swimming pools near the beach. The beach is sandy too. The shopping is quite boutiquey and great for port. There are port tours too. We took our yacht into the marina in Alfurada and loved it. It is much cheaper than Nice, with far more character. The weather in November was sunny with t shirts, but needed a sweatshirt first thing in the morning, and as soon as the sun goes down. If you go, have a fab time. Smile

Ohhh thanks all - I'm off to Porto for a couple of days in September with my daughter - not been before - these comments make it sound lovely!
