Fitbit advice for child

Hi, not sure if this is right area so apologies if not

My daughter would like a fitbit for her 10th birthday and wondered if any of you have recommendations as I don't really know where to start. It doesn't need to be all-singing-all-dancing as she doesn't have a phone for it to sycn with.

She only really wants it to monitor steps etc - does anyone have any opinion on whether this is OK? I can't decide whether it's good she's aware and wants to be active, but I don't want her to become obsessed! Thoughts?

I have a Fitbit and it's very good. My friend bought her 8yr old DS a cheaper version that I helped her to set up and it's a total waste of money. It worked for about 2 days and then it doesn't keep an accurate track of his steps at all. Even the time lost an hour.
Buy a basic pedometer without all the fancy stuff would be my advice.

Just bought our son a Garmin Vivofit for his upcoming birthday. I don't know what it's like to use but fingers crossed!

I've just bought my son a Garmin one too. It was a bit more expensive than the others listed but I didn't want him receiving my messages if it had to be synced to my phone. IYSWIM. I won't know if it's any good until he's used it for a while but it's supposed to have a 12 month battery and is waterproof!

Fitbit now do a kids version.

Dollygirl2008 · 18/08/2018 17:54

Thanks! Will research those ones!

Hello, did you buy one in the end Dollygirl? I'm in the same position of researching for my daughter's 9th birthday pressie.

Jessicabrassica · 13/09/2018 15:27

Vivofits are amazing. Dd has a mifit which tracks steps. We've disabled calorie counting on the app because I feel that's something a 9yo girl doesn't need to be concerned about.

We got the Fitbit kids one for our 10yo and t is great. Fits his skinny wrist well and isn't bulky

cakesonatrain · 13/09/2018 16:56

Mine have had the Garmin kids one since Christmas and they are great

Tiggles · 13/09/2018 17:25

Mine have the kids garmin ones and they get on really well with them.
Only down side is that they lose time if they don't get synced every few days with my phone.

LynetteScavo · 13/09/2018 18:31

Fitbit do a kids version- it's slightly cheaper and overall looks really good. Although it doesn't have the "period due" but which is why I didn't get it for my DD.

RSTera · 13/09/2018 18:40

DS (8) has the Fitbit Ace (the kids one) and he loves it. He has it linked to the app on his ipad but he never looks at that. He just likes counting his steps and having a 'grown-up' thing.

Dollygirl2008 · 16/09/2018 14:13

I bought this one

LETSCOM Fitness Tracker HR, Fitness... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0721SXJH2?ref=yopoppmaswf

It's her birthday on 27th so I'll let you know!

Bit late for OP now, but DC1 has the Kids Garmin Vivofit junior and we've been very impressed with it. There's a game she can play on the app where you earn moves based on your goals. There's also a reward chart on there where you can earn stars and get treats.
