I don't know if you can mix them. Have you taken anything else? Personally I find codeine the best for toothache (need to buy it from a pharmacist)

endofthelinefinally · 17/08/2018 20:18

Paracetamol and ibuprofen alternated 2 hourly is fine.
Not aspirin and ibuprofen because both are very hard on your stomach.

MongerTruffle · 17/08/2018 20:18

No, you can't take aspirin, naproxen or ibuprofen within 8-12 hours of each other.
You can combine aspirin or ibuprofen with paracetamol, either alternating them or taking them at the same time.

Not so far. I can get to a pharmacy in the morning.

I cannot believe how bad this is!

Clove oil is good for toothache. You put it on the tooth using a cotton bud.
An ice pack or a hot water bottle on your jaw can help.

RJnomore1 · 17/08/2018 20:20

Ok I'm going to take two paracetamol.

I took aspirin at 1 and ibuprofen just there, oops.

I cannot remember the last time I took a painkiller.

Whisky or any other strong spirit, take a large mouthful and hold it over the tooth for as long as you can bear, numbs the nerve for a while. Swallowing it afterwards will probably help too if you don’t need to drive. Pharmacy will sell something called oragel, which has benzocaine in it and will completely numb the area like the injection from the dentist.

MissTerryShopper · 17/08/2018 20:25

When you go to the pharmacy, get Oragel. Its the only thing that worked for me. Its very strong and you whole mouth will go numb, but the pain stops. It has Benzocaine in it I think.
Keep up with the painkillers too. Hope it helps, toothache is terrible.

WeeMadArthur · 17/08/2018 20:26

Ask for Paramol over the counter, it’s 500mg of paracetamol and I use it when I get earache if I can’t get to the doctors for prescription painkillers.

starzig · 17/08/2018 20:27

You can take them together. They are different drugs. You can follow guidelines for each in tandem. The omly reason Dr. Google says not to is because side effects being similar and therefore if you are prone the the side effects they will become exaggerated. Side effects are very rare though.

RJnomore1 · 17/08/2018 21:37

I've taken the paracetamol now and with bonjela and an ice pack on for a good half hour the pain is gone for a bit.

Anbesol liquid (no gel) is also very good.

postitnot · 17/08/2018 21:43

can you get to an emergency dentist over the weekend? your dentist should have the number on their answerphone

RJnomore1 · 17/08/2018 22:16

I'm just trying to get through without emergency one but TBH I was nearly in tears earlier and I'm not a wimp, I've got a high pain threshold, so if it gets really bad again I may phone.

ORAGEL. Only thing that works.

purpleme12 · 17/08/2018 22:43

Solpadeine plus. Have you tried that?

PixelDust · 17/08/2018 22:52

Paramol is the best. Get some tomorrow

nocoolnamesleft · 17/08/2018 22:52

If you're taking both aspirin and ibuprofen, really need not to be doing it on an empty stomach (paracetamol rather less of an issue).

PickAChew · 17/08/2018 22:56

If you're short of paracetamol, get Co codamol instead, in the morning. If you can stand the test, hold it in your mouth to dissolve a bit, before swallowing (don't try this with ibuprofen)

RJnomore1 · 17/08/2018 23:45

Empty stomach is never rarely an issue here
