Do ice cream vans have their own 'patches'?

Ive never really thought about it today, my street and the council estate opposite the main road we live just off have an ice cream van that plays O Sole Mio. But the small estate behind us has one that plays Greensleves. I also hear one in the distance that plays Match of the Day, but have never been able to pinpoint where it is.

They never cross over onto each other's patches though, so O Sole Mio never enters the estate behind me, Greenselves is never on our street or the estate across the main road and Ive never seen Match of the Day anywhere around here but can hear it, so it can't be that far away.

Am I just reading far too much into this?

Our local council issues 'patches' with licenses according to friends mum - ice cream van owner.

However she runs from a carpark at a local beauty spot rather than driving around so that may just be for ones with set locations.

Me and DS were at our local park a few weeks ago, got an ice cream from the usual van and sat on the bench to eat it. A rival van pulled up NEXT to him in the car park! Me and Ds were ShockShockShock. Since then the red van around our way has been known as the Ice Cream thief Grin

Too goodGrin

Def dodgy ones here ... Unless it's normal to buy your kids ice-cream at 10pm on a Friday night in November...

Watch the film Comfort and Joy.
"Hello, folks!" to anyone who has seen it.

Now we’ve done our Aretha nostalgia (Blues Brothers) and listened to my Runrig LPs, l think we’ll dig out the Comfort and Joy dvd. Smile Hello, folks!
