Youngest wants to go to london for a day trip. What are the best things to do in one day?!
I was thinking ....changing of the guard, londn eye and a river cruise?

Have seen 40 min cruise or all day hop on hopff...which would you choose? What sites do you see on the cruise?

Any other suggestions or tips?

I'd love to see the Churchill war rooms. Didn't like the Natural History Museum, too many people and looks of it looked very tired.

London eye is very expensive for what it is.

www.emiratesairline.co.uk this is much better!

The Science Museum, Madam Tussauds, Buckingham Palace, and the Tower of London aren't that close to each other do don't plan on doing them all in one day.
Plan to see one and then maybe go to Trafalgar Square then walk along the Embankment and cross to the South Bank. You'll see the London Eye and other landmarks by just walking around.
There's nothing to see around Paddington so get on the tube as soon as you get there.

How old is your child?

I don't think London Eye is worth the money. The cable cars are so much cheaper and more fun. Tower Bridge experience is good and you can get a combined ticket with the monument.

For older children the slide at the Olympic Park is amazing. For younger children the Natural History Museum is a must!
There's usually something going on at Southbank with nice views across the river.

Try the clipper boat ride, we went to Greenwich on it the other day and it was great.

Quickerthanavicar · 17/08/2018 17:50

It does depend on the age of your child and the day of the week you come.

The Paddington Bear walking tour leaves Paddington Station on Tuesdays and Saturdays and is 2.5 hours for I think about £12.00 it takes in sights of the movie including Portabello Market. A bus trip is part of the tour.

Madame Tussauds is costly and not really 'London' I always think it could be anywhere and frequently hope it moves.

London Transport Museum in Covent Garden is great for kids as there is interactive stuff. Not far to Leicester Square with the Lego store and the M and M store.

Trafalgar Square is a short walk from Leicester Square - National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery and Nelson are all there.

Walk down the Mall for Buckingham Palace.

Or pop to Kensington for the Science Museum, V and A Museum of Childhood.

If you want to see the Changing of the Guard and it is not a day it is done at the Palace, it is done every day at Horse Guards Parade 11am Monday to Saturday and 11am on Sunday. The Household Cavalry also have a museum.

See if you can get tickets for the sky gardens (it’s free so tickets go fast) if you plan to be near Tower of London then check the tower bridge website for times of the bridge lifts and planarohnd seeing that. As others have said the cable car is nicer than London eye. The boats along the river from Westminster to Greenwich are good - the website usually says that they will provide a guide in different languages but they just talk in English and ask for tips because they don’t get paid to do the commentary.
