I've been a tenant for about 20 years, now a landlord for a few months.
If you rented a room all bills Incl. & went on holiday for 2 weeks, you wouldn't tell the landlord u think u should have money off would you? Many bills e.g. Council tax, wifi etc don't change while ur away & the rest stay pretty much the same because the house size doesn't change, and other tenants bills can't increase because it's fixed.. the room can't be occupied by someone else with all said tenants stuff.
We agreed after they kept pushing it, but it's the last time I think.
If a housemate borrowed a clothes airer from your room without permission, you'd talk to them about it right, and speak to landlord as a last resort? Wrong. My tenant immediately texts us (landlord) as if we're their parents, as soon as anything like that happens.
As soon as you agree to do one tenant a favour costing e.g. £150, others start asking for things as well. It's endless, and all unnecessary.
We don't like being asked for unreasonable things because we don't like having to say no, but it seems we're going to have to learn to say no to people.
Starting to realise why our landlords loved us so much, and why they all said how unique hassle-free tenants we were!
Also starting to realise why so many letting agents are so rude to their tenants!
Oh my word.
