Come tell me about your breadmakers

As above really.

I'm looking for a bread maker. I use to have one a few years ago, and I used it nearly daily until a paddle broke.

It was a 2bl one with two paddles. Most of the ones I see now, seem only to make little loaves with one paddle.
Is this enough for your family?

What makes do you recommend?

Thanks in Advance Smile

We've got a Panasonic. Had it for 4 years now, Use it at least three times a week. Would recommend.

If there were more than two of us, we would bake every day.

ToftheB · 17/08/2018 11:06

I second the Panasonic suggestion. Dull but consistently excellent :)

JustLikeBefore · 17/08/2018 11:09

I have a old Panasonic which I used to use a lot. A 1lb loaf is a decent size. The machine has a timer so you can put on to start while you're asleep and have fresh bread in the morning. Hard to tell if it's enough - depends how big your family is and how much bread they eat. Pretty sure a loaf would be enough for a day and you can always make more! Bead is nicest very fresh anyway!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 17/08/2018 11:35

I have one in the boot ready to go to charity. Never been able to make anything other than solid salty bricks with it.

You can have it if you’re anywhere near Liverpool.

SadieHH · 17/08/2018 11:38

Best diagram ever!

And Panasonic. Mines old now but I'm too skint to buy a new one, especially as it still works perfectly.

JustLikeBefore · 17/08/2018 11:40

ah thanks Diana But I'm miles away.

Salty bricks! reminds me of my mum's bread when growing up Grin she didn't have a bread maker and used the most dense wholemeal flour too. proper door steps.

@Incrediblepregable my Panasonic used to make a reasonable gluten free loaf. It made a great raisin loaf - gluten free bread is always nicer with a few interesting ingredients added! I think the newer ones have a special gf setting.

senua · 17/08/2018 11:49

Another Panasonic owner here. It's a SD-254. I don't know if they still make such a thing, I've had it a while.
It makes a 1lb loaf which we find sufficient.

Thecatisboss · 17/08/2018 11:52

Another panasonic owner i tend to use mine for pizza dough and bread rolls which are very nice.

UnaOfStormhold · 17/08/2018 11:52

Panasonic all the way - I don't know what they do differently but they much better than any other breadmaker I've tried. I think we have the SD-254 as well, though we've previously had the SD-251 which was also good. Ours gets used nearly every day and we've only ever had dud loaves when we did something stupid like leaving out the paddle or the water.

Incrediblepregable · 17/08/2018 11:57

twotabby that’s exactly what I want! A nice raisiny walnut loaf.

Incrediblepregable · 17/08/2018 11:58

Excellent diagramming OP. Have you considered penguin bollards?

JustLikeBefore · 17/08/2018 12:01

I like the look of this one, but can't seem to link it from Amazon to here.

Panasonic SD-2500 WXC Automatic Breadmaker with Gluten Free Program.

Think I'll mention penguin billiards to DH. Grin

bollards! ffs

MilkybarGrownup · 17/08/2018 12:04

I remember mum having a bread maker years ago and there was a hole in the bread from the paddle. Do breadmakers still do this?
I make my bread by hand. Can't beat a lovely crispy huge white bloomer 😘

I swapped my Morphy Richards for my friend's Panasonic (as she wanted to use it for making jam), and thought I was getting the better deal ... but can't make the chuck-it-all-in cakes in the Panasonic like the MR does. I'd go for MR next time. I use mine at least once a week, and there is a hole in the base, but at least the paddle stays in the machine!
