My biological dads name appears to have been removed from my birth certificate...

Exactly that really, I just wondered if anyone could shed some light. I have my small red version of my birth certificate and he’s on it, well I needed a big one and when I got that his name isn’t there, in all father details it’s just blank. My mum is still there, every other detail is right. I don’t have anything to do with him, he’s not really a nice man so I can’t ask but I am confused still.

As your Mum?

AssassinatedBeauty · 16/08/2018 16:14

Have you tried contacting the GRO to ask them if they have any information? Their contact details are here:

My mum died a few years ago, so not an option unfortunately. Thank you, I shall get in touch with them. Thank you 😊

Is he definitely your Dad ? Could your Mum have added him later ?

Annechristmas · 16/08/2018 16:54

Do our think it's possible that it was never on and your mother added it herself?

Ariclock · 16/08/2018 16:58

Is there a chance that he may not be really be your biological dad? It might be best to phone him and ask him just to be sure.

Bezm · 16/08/2018 17:03

If you can, go to the registry office where you were registered with the certificates and ask them to check their records.

Farahilda · 16/08/2018 17:04

You're probably old enough for the short-form certificate to have been handwritten.

So there are two possibilities:

  • he wasn't on it when you were registered and, instead of re-registering properly, someone just wrote him on (any slight difference in ink?)
  • they did re-register birth to add him, but for some reason the re-registration has been lost in the system.
SirVixofVixHall · 16/08/2018 17:25

The long form is the original so if he isn’t on it then I would assume he wasn’t put in it when your birth was registered, that is why I asked if there is any doubt about him being your father.
If you don’t have any contact with him, do you have siblings who you could compare DNA with ? ( I wouldn’t be this frank if you hadn’t said that he isn’t a nice person at all).

GuyGarveysWife · 16/08/2018 17:49

No siblings, and I don’t know(and may never I suppose) if he is 100% my biological father, had always assumed as that’s what I was told(and what was on my birth certificate), but it doesn’t really bother me regardless, just more curiosity I suppose, he hasn’t been there for most of my life anyway so if he actually isn’t my dad it won’t make any difference. Thanks for the answers everyone! :)

Where your parents married when you were born / at all? Is it possible he didn't go to the appointment and so couldn't be added to the certificate at that time?

ThinkOfAWittyNameLater · 16/08/2018 17:52
  • were they. I don't think the where is relevant Grin
hmmwhatatodo · 16/08/2018 17:58

Out of interest, the only cert I have is a little hand written one with very little information on. Should I have another one as well?

SirVixofVixHall · 17/08/2018 18:30

hmmwhattodo - there are two forms, the long and the short, you may only have the short, you can apply for the long one.

ChessieFL · 17/08/2018 18:37

My short version doesn’t have any parents’ details on it, just my name, the date and place of birth and the registration details. Are you in England OP?
