"Allergic reaction" or something else?

I was bitten by mosquito 3 times almost in a row right along the bra strap area about a 10 days ago. I have always had some allergy to Mosquito bites and swell up more than I would say a bee sting (where I would react like most people would) Find them very itchy and they linger for longer than most other people comment.

However this time with the 3 bites. Whilst they followed my " usual pattern" of being itchy swelling up a lot and being very itchy. They have by looks of things calmed down however I am left with what I can only describe the sensation you have when you have been stung by a nettle. It runs from under my arm (where my underwire begins) right around to the middle of my back (where shoulder blade starts) It can be outright painful to move my arm and I feel like I at no time have any " normal ness" in that side.. Only on my right side. I can't bear wearing a bra as it is making me feel like I am wearing a instrument of torture. So I am constantly wearing my bra too loose or with 1 shoulder off. (I am a E cup so going without is not a possibility)

However it is as I said now 10 days on and this doesn't seem to be easing up at all.. I can't work out what exactly this is Could it still be the bites or is it something else?

I have been reading up on line to work out and the only thing it sounds anything near like is Shingles. However no rash and I have always understood Shingles to be very painful. Whilst this is irritated and annoying I have had worse pain and have only used paracetamol and Ibroprofen. If I use Pirriton it seems to ease the itchyness for about 1 hour then it comes back even worse so I have stopped that ..

Any ideas?

Could be shingles, Op. Can you show the rash to a Pharmacist or see your GP. 10 days with no improvement is not normal for mosquito bites.

Enko · 15/08/2018 18:52

Tnx for replying FadedRed

The rash has gone . You can still see the mosquito bites but they are dark and smallish... No obvious swelling by them anymore.

Hmm. I was also going to suggest shingles. I mistook mine for insect bites at first.

Go to doctor. Bites could have got infected or it could be cellulitus

SandunesAndRainclouds · 15/08/2018 20:24

I’m the same with mosquito bites.

This year I had a much worse bite that was very painful, really swollen etc. Turned out to be a horsefly bite. They hurt!

GreenTulips · 15/08/2018 20:26

Go to the pharmacists they can see you straight away.

Does sound like infected bites or shingles

Racecardriver · 15/08/2018 20:29

Is it possible that by wearing your bra loose you have chafed your skin?

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 15/08/2018 20:32

You might have a mild case of shingles. Were the 'bites' confined to one side of your back, left or right only?

youarenotkiddingme · 15/08/2018 20:33

My mum had this pain and was in absolute agony. They diagnosed shingles but she had no rash. Apparently there isn't always one.

Enko · 15/08/2018 20:36

Bites only on the right side. This is not horsefly bites I know how I react to them and this is nothing like it.

Only wearing bra loose to avoid the painful /irritated sensation I wasn't doing it when the bites were swelling and itchy.

Could well be shingles then. I had it as an 18yo, Spots were in a row following a nerve on my RHS and once they'd healed I got a very sensitive/nearly painful sensation in that area for months afterwards, slowly improving. The spots were different to chicken pox, but more painful than an average mosquito bite. Rather like a bad mozzie bite that blisters and is a bit weepy.

Enko · 15/08/2018 20:48

grumbles.. My branch manager is currently pregnant so Im going to have to deal with this before Friday I suspect... (not in tomorrow at a course)

Google just throws up severe shingles but mine were a bit like this.

"Allergic reaction" or something else?
EllenJanesthickerknickers · 15/08/2018 20:52

You can give someone chicken pox if you have shingles, but not vice versa, i.e. You don't catch shingles from chicken pox, it's dormant in your body from when you had chicken pox and can happen at any time afterwards, often if run down or stressed rather like a cold sore)

FadedRed · 15/08/2018 21:18

Your pregnant manager is not at any risk if the affected area is covered up, Op.

Enko · 15/08/2018 21:20

Will go see Doctor tomorrow. Had a chat with my friend (who works in that sort of area) and she has said I have to go before going back to branch so we know what is happening.
