To not have any loyalty to anyone

Ok this sounds awful but has anyone just decided not to have loyalty anymore! I'm obviously loyal to DP and family but to friends not really. I feel like over the years I've been the fiercely loyal one only to be messed around. For example .....
I counsel and support a friend and she asks everyone but me to be bridesmaid

I help a work colleague I believed to be a friend and when I need help she's nowhere to be seen
I run round after other people birthdays etc but never get the same level back.
I just think what's the point in loyalty?

I've felt like this after being royally messed around/ignored and not appreciated by friends etc. I stick with my doggies and cats, they always want me around and love me!

That must be what god feels when he looks down at us now.

Don’t blame you at all, I think the more you give generally the more people take. I can guarantee though it won’t go down well with your “friends” they soon take great unbridge that suddenly you are not at their beck and call, people like that hate it when the worm turns it’s actually quite a shock to them. Stay strong and just look out for the people who genuinely care for you.

Seriously it's sad but I'm fed up of giving so much to be shat on from a height.

So what do I do? Give up on friends?

I have very very few people whom I will make an effort for now, I’ve been burned too many times giving my all to ‘friends’ who just don’t feel the same. It’s better to step back and only expend your emotional energy on people you know will reciprocate or at the very least be grateful for your efforts. You can still make new friends, I have recently and it is really lovely when you meet someone who is on the same wavelength, said new friend has had very similar experiences to myself so ‘gets it’. Quality not quantity.

I'm 100% loyal to my children and always will be no matter what. I have been treated very badly and with total disloyalty by people who should have been there for me - parents, ex H. I don't expect loyalty anymore, from anyone, I am never surprised or disappointed when I am let down or hear of people talking about me etc. I do not care. To that end I tend to keep my distance from people and so my loyalty is never really tested. I think there's a real freedom in this, I wouldn't want to go back to the days of big circles of friends and family, it was hard work and not worth it.
