Pain in tooth with no root?

Does anyone know if it is possible to have pain from a tooth that has been root treated? One of mine is throbbing but was root treated last year. I’ve also got jaw, face and eye pain so that’s tying to figure out what the cause might be!
Is it unlikely to be the tooth?

I’m sure the root can grow back I know friend had one done three times. I stand to be corrected though!

In a root canal treatment the contents (nerve/blood vessels) are removed from the root, not the root itself.
They can get reinfected again - they’re not a 100% forever cure.
Could well be that tooth giving issues so get to the dentist. Hope it’s better soon

I had one where the root wasn't completely removed. Discovered at X ray when the tooth started hurting.

Really? That’s interesting!
I was at the dentist about the pain yday and he was pretty sure it was unlikely to be from that tooth due to it having been treated. Thing is he wasn’t keen to X-ray as I’m pregnant too.
I go on holiday this weekend, do you think it’s safer to go back again and ask him to check for sure? There’s no sensitivity, just throbbing and what seems to be referred pain right up my face!

At least give them a call and explain symptoms. It could be infection again (in that tooth, or unluckily another). Also explain you’re going on holiday, if you have infection brewing a plane flight can make it worse (changes in air pressure).
And you can have X-rays in pregnancy, it’s safe.

It'll be an infection. You still get pain if there's an abscess under it, whether there's a root or not.

Mynameisnotthis yes really. Echo shiny's advice to go back although I'm not sure about dental X rays and pregnancy. It does happen - sometimes it can be difficult to get all of it out and if there's anything left it can become infected. I actually saw two dentists with mine - the first one filled the tooth next to it because he said it was impossible for one with root treatment to be infected 😐. The second did an x-ray and found a gap.

CaveyLass · 15/08/2018 17:53

Teeth that have been root filled are more likely to become infected as they’re dead and can harbour some nasty bacteria.

Hombre · 15/08/2018 17:55

You wouldn't feel it if the root was removed and properly packed though.

Hombre · 15/08/2018 17:57

I mean, the tooth could decay under the crown but you would have no sensation.

CaveyLass · 15/08/2018 18:00

You can still feel an infected root. Mine abscessed and it was extremely painful. Had to have it removed. Root canals often fail due to lingering bacteria.

Mynameisnotthis · 15/08/2018 18:10

Thanks for all your thoughts. So I could perhaps be feeling the affects of infection in my face but not the tooth specifically because there’s not root?
I’m not sure if it’s the tooth or some sort of headache issue as pain is
now mainly my head and eye on the side where the tooth was throbbing. Is the safest bet to rule out infection either way then if its a headache I just need to deal with it?

Could be a sinus infection. Pop to the GP if it's still bad tomorrow.

Mynameisnotthis · 15/08/2018 18:43

Oh spiderlight is that possible without any congestion etc? Don’t feel unwell at all, just sore!
