Should I use my bank card or rail ticket to minimise penalty

Would appreciate advice!

Just after 10am, I got on a train out of a central London train station, travelling to the south coast. I went to buy a ticket from the machine, but it wouldn't take either of my cards. Other people were having the same issue, so the queue for the counters got long v quickly. I only had a few minutes for the train so I ran for it and used my bank card (in the same way as journeys within the London zones) to get through the barrier. I thought it better to risk £20 fine than miss the train. I didn't think through the implications of using the card.

Once I was on the train, an inspector came. He was aware of the card issue at the station and sold me a ticket. No fine, phew.

Now I'm wondering what I should do on my return to get through the barrier? Use my train ticket? Or will there be an issue that I didn't touch out by bank card. I'll be back about 8pm. Once I'm back in London, I'll be taking the tube, .

You should be able to ring TFL and claim back what you get charged on your bank card. If you use your bank card when you get back it will see it as a new journey and charge for an uncompleted journey again
