Carpet cleaning recommendations

Hello, having spent far too much time scrubbing carpets and rugs after potty training accidents I was wondering whether it might be worth getting a steam cleaner. Does anyone have one and would you recommend it? Or is it better to pay a carpet cleaning company to do a proper clean every so often? Thanks in advance!

I have a steam cleaner...it does absolutely nothing for cleaning the carpet...except make it slightly damp. Don't bother!

I'm considering hiring a rug doctor when the kids go back to school.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of hiring one so perhaps that's the answer. Is a rug doctor fairly easy to use?

No idea, I haven't tried it yet...I hope so! I've heard good things about the results.

I have a Bissel carpet cleaner which I highly recommend. However I also love the rug doctor cleaner and it well. worth hiring. Some people say it leaves the carpets wet.... they are not using it properly!

Vax carpet cleaners are around £99 in Argos. They have good reviews.

Thanks everyone. Which Bissell do you have GoldenHoops?

I've had several carpet cleaners over the years and none have really been any good. Recently paid a carpet cleaning company to clean my downstairs carpets and it was well worth the expense. In future I intend to spot clean by hand and then get a professional clean done as and when needed.

I have used a rug doctor at work ( pub carpet ! ) they are good but only have a small tank so you spend a lot of time emptying and refilling it . They also won't fit under anything less than about 3 foot high so if you have any heavy furniture you were not planing moving you may need to now . It does a good job and is easy to use .

I have a vax vac and carpet shampooer, it's a bulky bit of kit bit very power full and has adjustable suction ( I keep mine on the lowest setting or I can't get the dam thing to let go of the carpet ! It has a lance ( pipe / hose) so it will get under and round everything It's heavy though but would be easier to get up the stairs than the rug doctors purely because of the shape / design .
I have had it for about 8 years with no problems .
If you're planning on replacing your vac and buying a carpet shampooer this is definitely the way to go.
If you're vac is fine and you just want to shampoo the carpet and I would suggest a rug Doctor.
