Why does my scar hurt?! (C section. Not Voldemort-related)

I had a second C section 13 months ago. No complications. Healed fine with no issues. It’s been fine ever since.

Yesterday and today it is stingy and itchy and irritated. It doesn’t look any different but it’s really quite sore tonight.

Is this normal?? Has anyone else experienced this?

For background my first c section was a bit ropey. It was an emergency and the wound tore during the section. The second section (elective) took a long time to get the baby out due to scar tissue from the first time round but as I said, all went smoothly and I’ve had no issues since.

Any redness? I’ve had a fungal infection on mine before, and it stung and was itchy but could see red patches too. Canesten cream will clear it quickly if that’s what it is, or even just bathing it throughout the day.

Have your periods returned yet? Mine came back at around 14 or 15 months after my DC and my scar felt like you've described before and during my period.

Yeah I’ve been having periods since I had DD. I didn’t breastfeed.

No redness. Nothing to see at all. It’s just tender.

If your temp is above 37.5 I would get it checked quickly.
Otherwise practice occulomancyWink

Ive had 3, last one 3 years ago. I’ve had this to some extent with all of them, but more so the last one, I’m Sure because they used dissolving stitches in the surface instead of silk. I also believe that some of the pain is due to new / repaired nerve supply to the skin. Which can take a looong time. Sometimes I get manky dry skin and ingrown hairs as there’s a small overhang, this can feel itchy too. I try to remember to rub it with a flannel or something sometimes.

I’ve had two sections, last one 10 years ago, no complications and healed well both times.

I still get soreness and itchiness if I am coming down with any sort of infection or am rundown. It’s a giveaway sign for me that I’m about to be unwell or need to take care of myself better.

Not saying this is the case with you - always worth checking out with a doctor - but just thought I’d add my experience.

That’s really interesting Sunshine. My work has been absolutely insane the past few weeks and I’m wondering if it could be related to that. Stress, lots of driving and working at a computer.

Bonzo I have that overhang as well 😒 can’t shift it. It doesn’t look inflamed or dry but it could just be nerves etc. It felt numb for a long time.

I’ve had a feel and there is a tender lump on the left hand side (where the tear was).

I had my last c section 7 years ago, up until ds being 3 or 4 I would occasionally get sore lumpy bits which would eventually end up with a bit of "dissolvable" stitch working its way out.

Now it's occasionally sore but wears off after a day or so, usually when I'm run down.

I have a scar under each arm from surgeries about 5 years ago. One is fine, the other is temperamental, gets tight and itchy whenever I'm getting sick, which occurs whenever I'm stressed. Sometimes one end reopens for no discernible reason, and for a while there was a tunnel under a small flap of skin where one stitch was that in the end I clipped as it was annoying me and constantly trying to turn into a spot. The whole area is numb so it didn't hurt.

I've spoken to doctors but they don't seem concerned, just said these things sometimes happen, so I try to remember to clean it thoroughly each shower and rub a little tea tree oil one about once a week.
