Quick question for Dyson owners

I've got a V8 vacuum. When you're charging yours, is the blue light on all the time? Mine's not and I'm trying to figure out if it's a fault or if it just doesn't light up all the time (eg if charging is complete).

Thank you and sorry for the boring question

I think it switches off when fully charged - but I could be wrong

owlofathena · 13/08/2018 22:47

I'm pretty sure mine turns off when it is charged. It has three bars and flashes as the battery is charging up

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 13/08/2018 22:54

Switches off when fully charged, I think

Yup, switches off when fully charged OP :)

Rainatnight · 14/08/2018 06:55

Brilliant, you're all a big help, thanks!

Running time hasn't been brilliant and I wondered if I had a charging problem cos of the light but I can rule that out now.

Are you using the motorised head? That halves the running time
And having it on 'max' also reduces it

I think when they test it for the stated time, they use all the lowest settings so it doesn't really reflect real-life use

5000KallaxHoles · 14/08/2018 07:39

On when charging or comes on when just docked for a second or two - then goes off when on full on my V10 (yes I just checked).

I left my old V6 on Max for months and wondered why the battery life was so crappy at one point though.

Rainatnight · 14/08/2018 13:05

Thanks for checking, 5000!

tenbob this is probably really stupid of me but what's the motorised head? I use the main one it comes with, with the fluffy roller thingy inside.

That IS the motorised head - it whirls around - compared to like the crevice/spider removal tool and upholstery brush bit (being honest- it's the skirting board de-cobwebber) where no bits move around.

I think the other posters have your current issue covered, but I’ll add my two best Dyson tips. Whenever mine show any signs of trouble, I immediately clean the filter and take the main stick & head apart to remove all the cloggy bits. 8/10 times it sorts itself after that. There are great utube videos showing how to do it (bless those darling doddering monotone men who make those vids with such pride!).

Also, replacement batteries are available on eBay (not dyson). I got sick of the crazy prices, and have had no problems with the cheapies.

cjt110 · 14/08/2018 13:15

Another dyson tip.... Ours seemed to be underperforming. Although it says not to change the filter, DH purchased an aftermarket one off ebay for a fiver.

The suction has changed dramatically.... when holding the trigger to make the dyson work, you can just about lift it off the carpet. Best fiver we've spent in a while!

Rainatnight · 14/08/2018 13:17

Ah, gotcha Kallax I've never used my Dyson to clean my skirting boards Blush

Thanks, Skittles. As well as the run time, I've had some awful problems with it cutting out altogether, and sort of pulsating. The Internet suggested doing exactly as you said here, so I did all that last night and waiting for it all to dry out so I can try it again. Fingers crossed.

My cleaner's pissed off cos she didn't want me to get rid of our Henry and now she's giving me all these 'I told you so' looks. Grin

That's a great tip cjt, thanks.

I have had similar problems with mine, it's constantly cutting out but it's not the battery.
It runs for about 12seconds then cuts out, I dock it, take it out it runs for another 12 seconds, cuTs out, I dock it, it runs for another 12 seconds......
I have changed the filter, and checked the tubes/heads, I'm at a a loss but ready to throw it through a window 🤦🏻‍♀️😡

Icequeen01 · 14/08/2018 20:57

Speak to Dyson customer services @northernlites - I had a similar problem and they were really helpful and talked me through what I had to do and I literally did everything they said whilst they held on the phone giving me instructions. Problem is I can't remember what was wrong with it now so can't share it with you!

northernlites · 14/08/2018 23:50

Thanks @Icequeen01 I will do that, if it saves me and the dyson doing pistols at dawn!

Fstar · 14/08/2018 23:57

We had an issue with our battery failing and had to order a new one from dyson, also the filter but it is good as new now. they have a good trouble shooting section on their site if you are like me and chuck away instructions and what the coloured lights mean.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 15/08/2018 00:05

When mine does that pulsating thing as you say it’s because the brush on the motorised head is clogged with my long hair, I use a 2 pence coin to open it up, give it a clean out (I have to use scissors to cut all the hair out as it’s that matted!) then it works again, good as new.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 15/08/2018 00:20

Forgot to say when you clean the motor head you need to pull the brush bit out fully as hair can get wound up into a little cylinder in the cog bit - I’ve taken a photo 🙈

Mines a V6? Flexi so not sure if it’ll be the same.

I know you'll have all been on the edge of your seats Grin so I just wanted to let you know that it's working perfectly now. Thanks for all the advice.
