Braces - How much did you pay?

My 14 year old has a tooth growing too far back, it looks as though she is missing a tooth. She is eligible for NHS braces, however our county doesn’t offer this on the NHS.

Therefore the only option is private treatment to the cost of £3k! Is this reasonable?? She needs them now however will have to wait 6 months for me to pay the 50% up front required cost.

Whoa, that is expensive. I am deeply grateful to live in an area where the NHS funds this for DD2.

Ray do you know the name of the Mansfield one? That might be an be an option, thank you.

If Doncaster is an option for you then Damien Bourke at the Orthodontic Centre is good.

Staggered at the difference in prices. £5k or £400. Really? Seriously?

I've been looking for ages. Don't care what kind of brace or how long for. I just want the cheapest possible way. Top and bottom, minor adjustments to straighten both sets out.

I want the same treatment for ds1(14) neither of us qualify for NHS because it's considered minor.

I can't get my head round the difference in prices.

DD (11) had upper and lower braces fitted yesterday on NHS. Reading your posts I realise how lucky we are - we're in Cheshire.

One tip that may help, our Ortho said that he treats referrals based on mental health; a letter from consultant psych is enough to swing the outcome to NHS funding in some cases.

(Also said that he's experienced anorexia sufferers requesting braces as a way to avoid eating, which opened my eyes a little.)

I’m paying £2500 for cosmetic (clear) fixed braces top and bottom then £500 for both permanent and removable retainers. I’m paying monthly but not on credit. 5 months in and my teeth are basically dead straight just need to have elastics on now to correct my over jet - worth every penny wish I done it years ago.

Dd had hers under the nhs but it was a 9 month waiting list

If she hadnt been covered or we were in a hurry it would have been 3k

Fixed braces, upper and lower. 2 years ago. Cost 4.8k in the South East.

Interesting gino. Thanks.

Collywobbles1984 · 14/08/2018 21:36

I had a fixed brace for almost 4 years, cost £3k, but 3 years on and I'm still getting ongoing check ups and have a top and bottom retainer at no extra cost. I'm in Essex.

Mansfield Orthodontics on Woodhouse Road, I used to work at that practice and the one in Doncaster. Now have my own place. PM me if you need any help

£1800 for eldest who didn’t qualify for NHS, his teeth look amazing, worth every penny.

Youngest will get NHS as teeth are awful
