How do I get rid of bags and bags of stuff?

I had a lot of things in storage for a while because I kept thinking I’d sell it. Dipped my toe into selling a few times and it was pretty horrendous and time consuming and stressful. So I’m not going to do that.

Everything is out of storage now because I can’t justify the expense but I can’t keep these bags and boxes of stuff in my tiny flat any more.

There is nothing there that’s junk, anything remotely tatty has been binned or recycled.

It’s clothes, some brand new, many with tags, some just average Next, Gap, some quite a bit more expensive. There’s toys and games in perfect condition. Blankets, toiletry sets, perfume gift box (unopened) etc. About 20 large carrier bags full.

I had arranged for a collection from British Heart Foundation, but after waiting a month for next available slot they didn’t turn up and now it’s another 5 week’s before they can come again. I need this all out of the flat within the next week.

I don’t drive so can’t take it to charity shop myself.

Btw in case anyone wonders, this amount of stuff is a product of a shopping addiction, happily now sorted, as well as gifts that seem to have just built up. And the reason for the need for it to be gone is another step in my mental health improvement plan!

Any ideas?

Freegle or Facebook get people to collect

Women’s refuge for the clothes and toys?

HerRoyalNotness · 13/08/2018 18:21

And actually blankets and toiletries would be welcome I’m sure too

My local pet shelter was always grateful for towels and blankets.
Would you consider a plan to take one box a week via bus or taxi to a charity? Would any nearby churches help you?

GlovesGalore · 13/08/2018 18:38

Thank you, I’m going to contact some women’s shelters tomorrow!
I think the problem I’ve known in the back of my mind is that most places will want some of it but not all, some types of thing but not others.
This may not make senses to most people but I can’t face sorting this all out again - the thought of it actually makes me feel sick.
I can’t look at it, I don’t want to think about it at all, I just want rid of it all.
So I know I’ll be restricted but I just want one collection and it all gone in one fell swoop.
I’d love to think it could be of use somewhere then it won’t all feel like such a waste. That’s why donating to BHF was ideal.

If you live near me I'd happily come round, sort it out and drive it to shelters, etc (Cambs/Herts/Beds border)

KlutzyDraconequus · 13/08/2018 18:51

Where abouts are you?
What size are the clothes etc?

Salvation Army?

MiddlingMum · 13/08/2018 19:25

Could you ask on your local fb page for someone to take it to a charity shop for you?

GlovesGalore · 15/08/2018 15:03

Thank you for the responses.
I did try some women’s shelters but it’s difficult because generally you can’t contact directly which makes sense. So I emailed or used online contact forms but heard nothing back.
Good news is cancer research are coming to collect next Monday! I’m very happy 😊
