Anyone have any recommendations? It'll be kept in the garage if that makes a difference! Tia Thanks

You do have to check for one that says it will operate in cold conditions. I didn't know about this and lost a load of Christmas food I had in the freezer in my garage (not a chest freezer).

Oh no! Hope it wasn't too much of a disaster! Thank you, I wouldn't have thought to find that out!

Just get the biggest you can. Not much goes wrong with basic freezers, mine must be 15 years old.

My advise would be don't get a chest freezer, we replaced ours with a small undercounted one that takes up less space but holds the same amount as the top half of the chest freezer is useless.

Upsy1981 · 14/08/2018 21:56

Why is it useless? It might change my plans!

Geordiegirl1988 · 14/08/2018 22:11

Chest freezers are useless as the stuff on the bottom gets buried and forgotten about so ends up out of date and wasted

We have an IceKing chest freezer and it's good right down to about -10 degrees (ours is in our garage). I definitely wouldn't put a regular chest freezer in, most only state they'll work down to about 5 degrees. Might be fine, but I didn't want to risk it as our freezer is mostly full of meat.

We do have some plastic tubs in the bottom of ours to divide up the space to make it easier to locate stuff at the bottom and I regularly dig through and check what I have. Ours is only about 1m wide so not massive but fits loads in, but not so much that it's unmanageable or I forget what's there.

Don't get a chest freezer. Get a good upright with drawers instead. Less waste and much easier to keep organised. I regret not changing sooner, tbh

I prefer chest to upright. You can fit awkward shaped joints in much better. I use Ikea bags for organisation. One for veg, one for bread, one for meat etc. You can just haul them out when you want to rummage.
