Is it possible?
Also just interested if you've done a PhD at all and how much it took over your life?
Seriously considering applying for one that I am really interested in but just don't know if it's a crazy idea as have 2 very full on toddlers.

I think there is a huge difference between science phDs which require you to be present, in a lab, for fairly long hours, and social science/humanities PhDs which are often far more flexible. Most of our students also work a part-time job so it is certainly possible. I did mine whilst having two children. No regrets, and I didn't work a 40 hour week the whole time, I also worked about 16 hours a week to earn money. I was knackered by the end, needed huge amounts of support from my husband just logistically to take the kids out so I could write, but it did springboard my academic career, you can't have one without it, so it was definitely worth it.
