What’s getting you through the summer holidays?

Finding this holiday hard work. Two kids four and six. Any tips? Trying to maintain my weight so can’t drink or mainline biscuits. What’s keeping you sane?

I have same age kids. I am going out every bloody day, its tiring but basically I'm taking them out 10am to 3pm, even the 'free' days are not free because of picnic and ice cream expectations but I am using my overdraft to the max. I find if the eldest gets bored it leads to arguments with her little brother and that's hellish.whwn we're home they watch a film while I do jobs (and I'm supposed to be working from home so it's a bit of a juggle) I'm normally pretty chilled about bedtime in the holidays but I'm sticking to 730pm because by then I am done. Oh and my mum has them once a week when I have to go into the office and I really enjoy the silent drive to work.

Good luck

It’s tricky to avoid spending loads isn’t it? It was just too hot to spend all day in the park like we normally do for the first few weeks. I think being a bit ill and being restricted to short showers because of a leak didn’t help either.

A loose routine. I hate not having a routine and my middle dc cannot cope without one.
So for us it's get up around same time as we do for school, eat together then they do the usual get dressed, feed guinea pigs, do inhaler, clean teeth. Then if no plans (today we went to soft play, park with friends tomorrow) we go for a walk with the baby.

Lunch at same time each day and a chill time late afternoon, like they'd normally have after school. Gives me chance to have a cup of tea and just sit for a bit. Dinner normal time. Bed time is usually normal time too unless we are out. Like the other night we went to a nearby beauty spot to watch the sunset.
It gets easier when they are little older op. My older two are 10 and 7 and this has probably been the easiest holiday to date, despite having a teeny baby. Though I hear the early teen yrs are tough in the holidays too!

We have a shower leak and no shower as Dh has ripped it all apart yesterday. It's already driving me nuts. The mess, the nowhere to shower.. So I can understand how, in the heat with no shower, that would have made things hard for you op.
