Roughly what would this cost at your local ? (two soft drinks)

Passing through Northamptonshire today, DP and I stopped off at a country pub , asked for 2 pints of orange juice and lemonade (ie mixed together)..
Bill came to £9.10. (please don't say, if you were not happy , why didn't you go somewhere else..we didn't check the prices beforehand as never have done with soft drinks, and we were ok to pay it - we were gasping...) It was only after when walking back to car, we thought , hang on, that was pretty extortionate! (even if they were pints).
Or was it?
But then I lived in London until 5 years ago and don't remember paying that much in 'regular' pubs (ie not flash bars kind of places). I also worked in a country pub myself (my local) two years ago that is considered v expensive, but their soft drinks are not that much.
So.. a rip off? Or are all soft drinks going up now?
As an almost teetotaller it is pretty offputting that soft drinks are costing as much as beers.

I meant gasping with being thirsty after a long walk, not gasping in shock!

Was it orange squash and water or britvic type orange and water? £1 a pint for the first and more for the second, maybe £3. Those little glass bottle are dead pricey.

TheIsland · 12/08/2018 23:20

If it was the little glass orange juices then i bet they put two in each glass and then lemonade. They’d be £1.50-£2 each so that would be about right.

I paid £5.20 for two pints of coke yesterday... I'd say yours is definitely pricey!!

RJnomore1 · 12/08/2018 23:21

That's pricey.

leghairdontcare · 12/08/2018 23:22

I wouldn't expect to pay more than £2.50 for a soft drink. If it was real orange juice and lemonade I'm wondering if they charged you for 4 drinks in total but combined them in a pint glass.

confusedandemployed · 12/08/2018 23:23

Christ! That's ridiculous. Around here that would come to about £4.

BeautyAndTheBrat · 12/08/2018 23:24

At my work we wouldn't charge for the lemonade so it would be £1.95 for the orange juice each!

DelphiniumBlue · 12/08/2018 23:25

Separate bottle of OJ and then lemonade in bottles also, I guess. The normal thing would be to use a bottle of OJ and then top it up with lemonade on tap. You've been fleeced, tell us where you went so we can all avoid it.

spugzbunny · 12/08/2018 23:25

That's always been an expensive drink. They charge for the little orange juice bottles which are at least £1.50 /£2 the top up with lemonade. For a pint they'd use 2 so that's where your cost is.

LuluJakey1 · 12/08/2018 23:30

We could buy two double G and Ts here for £8.

whifflesqueak · 12/08/2018 23:35

2 x pints of Henry cost £6 in my pub.

We do charge quite a bit for soft drinks. That price is ridiculous op.

Naice pub in the Cotswolds.

Broussard · 13/08/2018 03:05

Around here that would be a small bottle of OJ plus a bottle of 7up each, so probably about €12 or more for the 2?
We don't tend to have post mix drinks which you would expect to be cheaper.

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/08/2018 05:49

That's a lot and they should have said something before making the drinks up really. Ridiculous that what was probably carton orange juice and shitey postmix lemonade comes to a similar price to alcohol which has more tax on it.

Sounds like about £2 for a small amount of orange juice and £2.50 for a large lemonade to top it up. Tip if you want a soft drink that's not a rip off. Get lime, blackcurrant or orange cordial and soda, will cost a pound or less.

LadyGAgain · 13/08/2018 06:47

OJ & lemonade is super expensive IME. Over £4.50 a pint here.

Violetroselily · 13/08/2018 07:30

I've paid similar to that and i think it's alot. I hope it was britvic orange and not a carton of long life.

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/08/2018 07:44

Don't see what difference that makes. Britvic orange is just branded long life orange juice from concentrate. Exactly the same as what comes in cartons.

alltoomuchrightnow · 13/08/2018 16:42

Barbara, lime and soda was my staple for years like about 20 years and it got too expensive... for instance, the pub I worked in, my local, they don't have soda water on the hose/tap thingy.. ,, it comes bottled up in individual little siphon bottles. A pint of soda and lime is about £4. I used to cringe when I was a bar maid there and people asked for one as they'd usually comment on the price
