Where to go for 40th?

ofcoursehesthefuckingfarmer · 12/08/2018 21:25

My 40th is coming up and I want to go away with DH and DC. I don't want a party as I only have about 3 friends Grin

DS has ASD and freaks out about going abroad so looking in UK.
Is Centre PARCs OK? We could afford the best lodge with hot tub etc. We'd do term time as quieter for DS, we want somewhere there's stuff to do, places to eat but not too busy.

Any ideas or wise mumsnetters?

It is very over priced for everything...food, activities etc and always busy

Maybe some ideas here www.autism.org.uk/about/family-life/holidays-trips.aspx

How old is your son and what sort of activities would you want to join in with? Any preference as to where in the country you go.

I am not keen on centre parcs but have 5 friends with children with ASD who go regularly. Possibly because it is very close and familiar.

I would prefer something like a Hoseasons lodge - they have a section for quiet and peaceful or similar wording. If you want a pool and on site shop and restaurants.

However. all my favourite holidays have been in air bnb accommodation, we have hired some wonderful cottages in various villages and really enjoy having a whole house.

What about booking a National Trust cottage/property?

If it wasn't too far out in the wilds you could get a supermarket delivery there of easy food that your child would be happy with, get the postcode before you book and see who delivers there.

^This. I wouldn’t waste good money on Centreparcs

Take a look at Forest Holidays. Similar lodge/hot tub set up to CP but without the hustle and bustle of CP (though also no sports facilities and pool etc). Not cheap but really good.

I'm having a similar dilemma for my 40th. No idea what to do but my dp wants us to go away. Not great when you have a winter birthday!

Thanks all.

A cottage is another option, I just want to do minimal cooking etc.

Also trying to find a balance between DS and DD who gets bored easily, as do I!

I'd like places we can visit, walks, hot tub, good food. Also not too busy as DS doesn't cope well with lots of people so maybe Centre Parcs isn't the right place.

Here are some ideas in Scotland
Crieff Hydro Hotel
Duchally Country Estate
Knock Castle Hotel and Spa

Just as an aside, I've heard a few times that CP involves a lot of queues which DS might not like.

Thanks ada, he certasintly doesn't like queues!
