Any plumbers know if this can be repaired?

Am thinking of you @pigletjohn Grin

The leaking part is from the point which feels it should have a simple black washer inside that can be replaced, but the sinking heart part of me thinks it might be a sealed unit, and in which case the entire tap system has to be replaced.

Any ideas?

you mean where the easyclean shroud meets the casting?

then the leak will be inside. Probably on the spindle of the cartridge, or it might be where the cartridge screws into the casting.

take the lever off and the domed shroud will probably unscrew. You may then be able to see where the leak is. Possibly you can tighten the gland nut a fraction. If it is badly worn (but why should it be?) the "O" ring may need replacing. If there is no "O" ring then the gland nut should do it, or you can undo the gland and run a turn of PTFE tap round the spindle to take up the slack, then replace the nut.

If it is leaking round the cartridge nut check that it is tight, or you can take it out and check the "O" ring. If none, wind PTFE onto the thread. Maybe there is a crack in the casting.

A new tap like that shouldn't be leaking because the moving parts and seals should not be worn out. It's possible that your hosepipe adaptor has put more pressure on the seals than they were designed for.

F, because I have a tap like this with a leak like this, lol. Thanks for the advice

Thanks for the advice @PigletJohn I'll give it ago, then maybe it'll give me the confidence to rewasher the leaking taps in the rest of the house!

PigletJohn, thank you so much.

Being really stupid here, but which part is the domed shroud? !

observe that in the 1901 tap the nuts and spindle are visible, so that your housemaid has to polish the brass with a tiny brush every day

in later designs, a bell-shaped cover screws over them, so she can polish the taps with just a rag. Hence "easyclean shroud." It unscrews to give access for maintenance. If you grip it wearing rubber gloves you should be able to undo it by hand. Or use a "boa" or similar strap wrench. You can lube the threads with white silicone grease.

apart from deliberate old-fashioned fakes, the later design has been usual for about a hundred years.
