Please help me find a passion!

So, I'm chronically lonely. This possibly wouldn't be so bad if I had a passion for something, or even just mild enthusiasm. I don't really have any hobbies although I do enjoy baking. I'm envious of people who have lots of interests and things to do. I work term time only so it's times like these that I realise how little I have going on in my life. Day after day of just me and dc pottering about.

Things I've tried and not particularly enjoyed:
Stained glass classes
Philosophy
Community gardening.

I'd love some suggestions of things I can become passionate about, particularly if it has the potential of making new friends.

Thanks

What sort of things did you enjoy before you had children?

Do you need something you can do with your DC or do you have childcare so you can get out in the evening?

Language classes?
Book club?
Yoga or pilates?

Urbanbeetler · 12/08/2018 18:41

Can you get out without the dc now, or are they still smell?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/08/2018 18:42

I need to do this too OP. Uffft. Therefore not sure I can be of much help, but hopefully i’ll Get some pointers from this thread too.
Make a list of everything you’ve ever enjoyed and felt fulfilment from and go from there?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/08/2018 18:43

Allotment?

losenotloose · 12/08/2018 18:47

It sounds sad but I don't think I've ever particularly enjoyed anything. I had my dc young and then just became a 'mum' by accident. I quite enjoy history. I need to find what I enjoy and I suppose I can only do that by trying!

My dc are 9 and 12 now. I can get out in the evenings, finally!

If you like History, what about researching your family tree? My sister has just started doing this and is really enjoying it! She's found loads of interesting family members and has managed to go back to the 1700s She tells me it's quite addictive though!

Singing? I love singing in a choir. It’s sociable and quite exciting when you perform.
Writing is my true passion. I love it. But that’s largely solitary.
I also love yoga. I’d love to get into it more as it is a lot more than just exercise. I’m interested in the spiritual side too.

BlueCookieMonster · 12/08/2018 18:52

Running, some fabulous running groups around which are very friendly.

Nuffaluff · 12/08/2018 18:53

I found my passions by having a little inkling that I’d like to do them.
Is there something you’ve always thought ‘mm... that looks fun’. Maybe something adventurous like rock climbing?

bertielab · 12/08/2018 18:53

I love reading. I tend to have projects I learn about -current Kings and Queens of England.

Pottery is great and knitting as both I can do in a group or alone........

Gottokondo · 12/08/2018 18:55

Smithing, reading (book club), cooking workshops, history lessons, hiking club. I find that doing something in a weekly class helps to make friends.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/08/2018 18:56

Allotment?

cestlavielife · 12/08/2018 18:56

Community choir

Couch to 5k running class

BlueUggs · 12/08/2018 19:00

What about cake decorating classes? They do half day and full day classes at a lot of places.
I also agree re a choir. I absolutely love the choir I go to. No auditions and you don't have to be able to read music.
What part of the U.K. are you in?

losenotloose · 12/08/2018 19:04

Family tree could be interesting!

I did go to a running club a couple of times and enjoyed it. I just need to stick to it.

I need to sort my own garden out before I could consider the responsibility of an allotment 😁.

I'm in south east London.

I do enjoy reading but worry about contributing to a book club, like what if I don't know what to say?!
