Help, I've murdered their frying pan!!

Staying at Centre Parcs and I made breakfast this morning. I'm not used to cooking on gas. This was a lovely new-looking grey non-stick pan before I used it. So far I've scrubbed it, soaked it in washing up liquid and then soaked t some more... help! Even the dishwasher isn't going to save this is it??

Have you got any bio washing powder? - Try sprinkling on the pan, adding a little water and leaving overnight.

agedknees · 12/08/2018 14:41

Put a dishwasher tab into frying pan with very hot water. Leave for a few hours then scrub.

bluerunningshoes · 12/08/2018 14:43

do you have washing powder (ideally bio powder)?
if yes soak with cold water & powder for a bit, then scrub.
I suspect it wasn't really non stick anymore due to mistreatment by others.

Furx · 12/08/2018 14:56

I used to clean chalets.

You won’t be the first or last person (that day) to kill a pan. Believe me.

MummySparkle · 12/08/2018 22:44

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately no washing powder and the dishwasher cycle did nothing to help.

@Frux thanks for the reassurance. Would it be best to leave it out with an apologetic note or shall I just shove it in the cupboard and pretend it did t happen!!

I read somewhere that tin foil cleans burnt on food etc. Pretty sure it said to use bic soda with it. I’ve never tried it though!

POPholditdown · 12/08/2018 22:52

Oh don’t try it, just tried to google it for you and the first thing it says is not to use that method on non stick pans! Grin

MummySparkle · 12/08/2018 22:54

Haha thanks for verifying that POP! I do have foil, but certainly no bicarb. Oh well. If it was my pan at home I'd just keep using it it all adds to the flavour right?!

Half fill it with hot water no soap, bring to the boil and scrape the pan while it's still boiling on the stove with a wooden or plastic spatula. Usually works, good luck.

FrozenMargarita17 · 12/08/2018 22:55

Have you got any vinegar OP? Mixed with Bicarb is great but I wonder if it would work on its own?

LoniceraJaponica · 12/08/2018 22:56

Foil and bicarb is for cleaning silver. And it really works.

PlatypusPie · 12/08/2018 22:59

The dishwasher cycle alone probably won’t shift it - it needs to be left to soak with hot, not boiling water, with a dishwasher tab in for afew hours .Gives the enzymes time to work. Turns the solid burnt on stuff to a sort of spongy brown stuff which can then be washed off. At the risk of sounding like a 1960s commercial, my DH was amazed the other day when this rescued what he had done to a very good pan.

wombatron · 12/08/2018 23:07

That there is supposed to be a ceramic type pan. I did the same to mine which I bought of amazon. Looks like the same brand. Load of rubbish and about £30 to replace if worst comes to worst.

I watched the lady in our staff kitchen clean her pans on a low heat with a biiiiiiig pile of salt. Though I'd guess like PP have suggested that this has happened before and previous people have scrubbed the hell out of it!

MummySparkle · 12/08/2018 23:16

Oooh dishwasher tabs are fizzy!! I've brimmed the pan with the hottest water I can get out of the tap. Tablet has dissolved and there are a few small brown flecks floating to the surface already. Fingers crossed for a frying pan miracle in the morning! Thanks everyone Grin

wombatron I think £30 is far too expensive for that pan. It reminds me of the Tesco value one that I bought to take to uni with me! probably because so many clueless cooks like me wreck them

That’s a cheap ceramic pan, absolute rubbish. You can only use them on a very low heat.Just put it back in the cupboard.

Musicalmistress · 12/08/2018 23:28

In the morning put in loads of salt & a little washing up liquid (or water) and use a damp paper towel/ dish cloth to gently scrub any remaining residue. Good luck!

MummySparkle · 13/08/2018 05:29

Well the dishwasher tablets helped a little bit, but not much. The yellow power ball bit doesn't break down in water with the blue enzyme stuff in it (this is totally fascinating by the way, I'm going to research the science behind it all on the drive home Grin ) Anyway when crumbled it's gently abrasive, so that has helped get a fair amount of it off. I'm going to try salt and washing up loquid in a fe hours when the DCs next wake up.

MummySparkle · 13/08/2018 08:57

Well I think this is the best I can do. I've packed the salt already so can't do that. I've scrubbed it again this morning and I think it's passable now.

I've got to set the dishwasher off before we go anyway so I'll run it through there for good measure. I can guarantee that, although it may look worse than when we got here it is most definitely cleaner Grin

I melted the spatula over the gas hob when we were there Blush. Went to own up and pay for a new one, and they couldn't have been nicer, just said don't worry about it, we'll get a new one to you today, and didn't charge me Grin. I have a feeling they expect there to be casualties....
