Is there any such thing as a short distance animal courier?

I am supposed to be picking up my pup on the 26th. It's an hour and half drive.

I was supposed to get a lift but person has decided it's too far and they are still nervous about driving on motorway, completely fine.

We calculated the trip, round, and petrol would have been £30 I agreed on £50.

Now that she can't take me I was looking at trains. It will cost me about £50 on train but it's the traveling I'm worried about.
There's a train change and then there will be a bus journey.
I'm worried it will be an awful trip for her.

Then I looked at taxis. £165 one way . Ouchhh no way

So, is there a service that picks up pups and delivers them? Or any other ideas.
Feeling a little stressed

Christ OP you're getting some stick! You sound conscientious and have the pups best interest at heart. Bit upsetting to have your friend letting you down. When we picked up our pup we drove, but had a pet carrier for her to travel in (she ended up in my lap with a towel but hey ho!) - is pup small enough to fit in one? You could put a towel in one and carry a couple in a backpack in case it goes to the toilet.

You can get the carry bag version if not a crate?

I see pups and small dogs in these on the tube all the time.

Are the train journeys long? She will most likely settle and sleep for some of it. I'd do the trains and suck up the costs of a taxi at the other end rather than the bus.

If this is your journey via train I'd do it that way. You shouldn't really put puppy down if it's not had it's jabs, but a carrier of some sort would be fine. Even better if it's one you can hold on your body so it's close to you

Yep won that's it but with taxi at Doncaster end and bus at Manchester and.

So from getting her it will be taxi to train station. Train one. Train 2. Bus/taxi home.

I really can't blame person for changing her mind. It is a long drive and if she's not confident then I understand.

I would put an advert out on a local page- like people said, this time of year there may be students about who would do it for a bit of extra summer cash and the chance to play with a puppy for a bit!

As you say, there's no obligation to take anyone up on anything if you meet them and don't feel comfortable.

When we went to collect our new puppy I loaded dh +3 xdc into my car and drove for 3 hours. Surely your puppy deserves the arms that reassure it on its journey away from its dm + siblings to be yours?!
If you aren't prepared to put yourself out at the start maybe ddog ownership isn't for you?

Don't be so ridiculous and sentimental April.

The pup would have no idea who they are anyways. As long as they are transported safely it doesnt matter.

What about all the pups that travel from abroad from shelters to the UK.

Should adopters board a plane to Romania to softly cradle the pups on the plane Hmm

One of the silliest things I've heard on here.

PUPupTheJam · 13/08/2018 11:56

And it's obvious OP doesn't drive so it's not as easy as loading the kids in the car.
Unless you are saying only people who drive should own dogs?

If you can’t afford the pet taxi I would do train and pet carrier. Pup will be tiny, so will be fine, it’s a faff for you but it’s once not every day and you get a total bundle of cuteness as a reward.
I really wouldn’t want a lift from some random from Facebook.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 13/08/2018 12:07

Owning a puppy is a sentimental business imo.

Hi
How about an online firm called Shipley post the job online and the carriers bid for the job. Would require a secure puppy carrier to be supplied by the breeder tho
I havnt used them for this but they are reasonable for most other things

Most vets have the number of a local pet taxi.
