Do you use Pinterest at all? I've found it enormously helpful in cutting my food budget (and reducing my meat intake). I found an awesome recipe for Vegan Chilli on there that even meat loving hubby enjoys.

I love my cookbooks but I have to confess that Pinterest is now my go to source for recipes.

Do like a book for quickness and reliability but Pinterest is a really good idea.Hadn't thought of that, thank you.

Have you tried this one OP? You can get a used copy on Amazon for 1p + postage:

www.amazon.co.uk/How-feed-your-whole-family/dp/1905862156/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=gill+holcombe&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1534069959&sr=8-1

There is a Mumsnet one too which I haven't tried yet, but is sometimes on offer:

www.amazon.co.uk/Top-Bananas-Family-Recipes-Mumsnet/dp/1408850494/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&keywords=mumsnet+cookbook&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1534070013&sr=1-1

This one has a few recipes and good tips for shopping/ cost cutting in general:

Whereabouts are you in the country? There are some good markets in smaller towns for picking up cheap meat/ veg. I live in the Home Counties but in a less, er, privileged area, and our local market is much cheaper than the ones even 5 miles away in posher places!

BBC good food is my go to recipe website. Most things have been start rated so you can easily see if it is worth trying to do. There are lots of categories including family cheap eats and you can search by ingredients.

Got both of those Ruby, finding them both a bit bland and a bit hit and miss. Although I might have overused them iykwim.

Have to admit I like cooking and probably have quite an adventurous palette. Dp and dd the same. 2 teenage son's not so much.Grin

If you're trying to cut down on the amount of meat, then add grated courgette, carrot and lentils to things. That's what I do.

If you have an adventurous palette then try these cheaptastyandeasy.wordpress.com/patties-mini-pasty-things/
Just put in whatever you want. DH made some and the filling was chicken curry, they were good.
