Women detained in Dubai ‘after glass of wine on plane’

Reading today’s Guardian and came across this.

Swedish dentist travelling with four year old daughter from London to Dubai had a glass of wine on the flight. Taken into custody as had an invalid visa and pending return to UK. Blood test then administered to test for alcohol. As a result of which apparently she and daughter detained for three days and made to clean toilets.

Released on bail, passport confiscated, remaining in Dubai pending hearing in a year.

Can’t do a link as reading a physical newspaper.

Anyone know any more about this? Is there more to it than a glass of wine on the flight and an invalid visa?

Just seems quite odd.

crafty Correct. When leaving the UK they show their American passport which means they have the right to remain indefinitely in the US. When returning they show their British passport which means they have the right to remain indefinitely in the UK. If they were returning to the UK on their American passports questions are asked. I've done it by mistake, giving my Canadian passport instead of my British passport. They asked to see a visa.

The Daily Mail might well be narrow minded and racist (I'm not going to say that they are - I don't want to be done for slander), but the article that you have linked to is just an opinion piece and proves nothing either way / does not advance the debate

TheHulksPurplePanties · 16/08/2018 12:06

hmcAsWas slander is verbal, and they would have to prove that they aren't narrow minded or racist and good luck with that.

And I'm aware it's an opinion piece Confused, I posted it because I think it sums up quite nicely why people believed her in the first place.

the facebook page for her 'clinic' is a giggle - with the exception of the odd trout pout the before and after photos are almost identical. some afters look more wrinkled.

no law against fleecing the stupid in the uk - but is there any regulation of this ' industry?' and does dental school qualify you for it?

MrsJayy · 16/08/2018 13:17

The Dental practicei go to owner has a botox clinic i guess all you need to start is syringe experience

Want2bSupermum · 16/08/2018 14:22

special I live in a town very close to Manhattan. There are so many women walking around with terrible Botox. I think they are all going to the same place and it's a doctor who couldn't hack it in manhattan. It's not him doing the work but a nurse. I find it shocking he manages to have a following. Can't help but think the women's brains have frozen too. They look awful.

She claimed that the experience wrecked her UK dental practice and lost her 30k but then I thought it was never going to be open anyway when she was in Dubai so what was she going on about?

MrsJayy · 16/08/2018 20:36

God knows what she was going on about polly she seems a total drama Llama who just says stuff. I had a look at her fb page the pictures she has up of procedures look like she has used just 2 women 😕
