Do cruise ships take fresh deliveries of stuff?

I’m musing about cruising ( damn you Jane McDonald!)

All these big fancy cruises, how do they serve fresh food for two weeks?

Do they somehow take deliveries on board, or do they nip to Aldi when in port?

They get deliveries when they're in port. I've been on a couple of cruises and seen crates being loaded onto the ship while walking around the dock.

Argh the husband fancies a cruise thanks to Jane I am not as keen ,they take on supplies in ports i dont think they nip to Aldi though😀

There are companies specialising in provisioning for large ships, including passenger cruises. In a nutshell, they place their order and the provisions are brought aboard at each stopover.

The food on our cruise was incredible and it all seemed very fresh! 🙂

Yes they do (my aunt worked on one in her younger days and we would visit when it docked in Southampton).

We cruised for the first time last year and the food was delicious 👌

Ooh, I wonder how they maintain standards and uniformity if delivering internationally?

I swear the milk in Spain tastes different. And the bread is almost unrecognisable.

Anyway, I have my eye on a St Petersburg cruise :)

Some spainish milk is Uht/long life . I really liked the look of the chile/Argentina cruise on the cruising programme

Since Carrefour, Lidl, and Aldi have moved into Spain you can get really good bread. Fresh milk is still a challenge. A couple of months ago after opening yet another fresh milk that had gone off we switched to Asturias uht which is very good. The Spanish don't generally use fresh milk for that reason I think.

I'm just back from a cruise. The bread was all baked on board as were all the cakes and pastries. The selection of fruit was amazing - I had the best strawberries I've had all year but they only appeared on the menu about a week into our cruise so I can only assume they were loaded at that port. Two days later it seemed to be apricots and oranges that dominated.

In the self service restaurant there were unlimited vegetables but the main dining room seemed to serve quite small portions of veg compared to the rest of the food on the plate.

I'm also looking at a St. Petersburg trip.

St Petersburg cruise is great but it’s a full on busy one. So glad I did it though. Yes you see them loading up with loads of stuff in ports. They also sometimes do galley tours which is dead interesting as they tell you how many thousands of eggs etc they use during the trip.

There are cows on board, chickens and microherb beds. Honest

I'm looking at a cruise too. Does anyone have any recommendations please. Thanks.
