Should I tell the nurse?

So im in getting an op today and felt my heart rate was high. I pressed my buzzer and a nursing assistant came over. The machine showed my pulse as 110 bpm so just slightly tachycardic. She went away and csme back im guessing the staff nurse told her to take it manually. Ok fine but she done it with her thumb. For thosr who don't know you have a pulse in your thumb. So she basically took her own pulse. Would you tell the nurses? I didn't want to embarass the poor girl but I feel she should know for her own learning. I am a nurse myself and we have to delegate tasks appropriately to those with the knowledge to carry it out ! Im thinking of telling them when I leave....wwyd?

Yes I would.

GuntyMcGee · 28/07/2018 22:48

Absolutely. That's very poor practice and shows that she hasn't actually been trained to do it manually and therefore shouldn't have done it as it's outside her remit. And how will she ever know that she's doing it wrong if no one points it out to her?

Please do flag it up to the nurse

Thats my gut thought but i dont want resentment! This girl makes my tea in the morning if you know what I mean...

Don't be so daft! Of course you can take a pulse with your thumb - feeling a patient's pulse is completely different to being aware of your own pulse. (From a doctor who regularly uses thumbs or fingers to take pulses).
