Tick mouth not removed

So I was bathing the 2 year old and I found a tick in her scalp! 🤢 anyway I was on my own and couldn’t find the tick remover we have for the dog so I looked online and it suggested a pair of fine ended tweezers. However trying to remove a tick from the head of a struggling 2 year old has meant a small part of the mouth/Head is still in her scalp. Would you ring doctors to remove tomorrow or leave it? I’m worried about infection. I maybe should of left it until I could get help tomorrow but everywhere I read suggested earlier removal meant less chance of infection.

Could you try dabbing it with alcohol - vodka or similar- to see if you can get it to release? This may only work when the tick is still attached though.

The links I read online seem to suggest it'll come out on its own but to keep an eye for a rash, flu symptoms etc.

Yes absolutely get to the GP asap. There is a risk of Lyme disease which if not caught and treated with antibiotics can ruin your health.

You need it out tonight and antibiotics mouth parts left in are very dangerous.

The little one was very distressed and so I’ve let her go to bed as she was making herself sick crying while I was trying to pin her down. I’ll ring the GP in the morning and see what they say.

There is no alcohol at all in my house at the moment!

Try again when she is asleep, using a sterilised needle.

UpstartCrow · 24/07/2018 23:30

You can sterilise a needle by passing it through a flame.

Op from what I've read gps don't prescribe antibiotics as a matter of course unless there are signs of Lyme
Disease- bulls eye rash, flu symptoms etc. Agree with pp, see if you can gently have another go when toddler is asleep, poor little mite.

Op how's is your little one today?

Shadowboy · 25/07/2018 19:53

She seems fine in helfself although I rang the doctors and when the doctor called me back he said he did recommend removing the last bit. The OH is home today so he will have to pin her down - hopefully the neighbours won’t think we are doing something hideous to her with the screaming. She’s just having a bath- hopefully the warm sling will help it come out easier!

I live in a country where ticks are very common (and do carry disease). GP here left mouth in when removing a tick from my son’s neck and said it wasn’t an issue.

Hope all went well with the bath and tick removal!
