What would you pack in an emergency run-away bag?

I've always thought it would be a good idea to keep some kind of rucksack in the house so that if there was some kind of emergency like a fire or something where we had to leave immediately we could just grab the one bag and head for the door.
Does anyone have this or similar?
What would you keep in it?
So far I've thought of important papers like passports and birth certificates
And maybe a first aid kit?
What else would it need?

I don't have one, but if I did I would keep:
Passport
Bottle of water
Biscuits
10 best family photos
Change of clothes
Phone charger

Loo roll
Cash, coins as well as notes.
A couple of biros
Post-it notes
Address book with phone numbers of all your important contacts (in case tech fails)
An old Nokia phone where one charge lasts 2 weeks, charging lead and a rechargeable charging station. Add all important numbers to the phone beforehand.
Bottled water
Sterile gauze
Tea bags
Matches
Foil blankets (compactly packed!)
Spare pairs of glasses
Ziplock bags and carrier bags
Knife, fork and spoon set
Barrier mask for CPR
Box of sterile gloves
Any medications taken regularly
Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Wet Wipes

In these days most things are electronic or documents can be scanned in and kept on a memory card/the cloud. Most of my photos, favourite books etc I can access anywhere so it would only be practical things or sentimental things.

So - change of clothes & toiletries, phone, kindle & chargers, medications. Kids favourite book/toy.

I want to add pencil + sharpener and paper to mine.

Alanamackree · 03/07/2018 00:23

I was thinking about this too. I’m going to get a fire-resistant box for important documents. The rest is hard to judge as you can’t prepare for every emergency.

Documents : deeds, house insurance, &marriage certs, passports, list of social security numbers, health insurance details.
I’m not sure whether these would need to be on paper or if a usb would suffice?

money cash, bank details,

Sentimental : copies of irreplaceable photos etc on a usb

tools wind up torch, wind up radio, charger, pencil, sharp knife, multi-tool, string, waterproofed matches.

first aid/medical basic first aid kit, prescription medicines, spare glasses

food/water no idea what food would be best, maybe some energy bars? Chocolate?

RedBallpointPens · 03/07/2018 00:28

Kendal mint cake for food I'd reckon is best. And I'd have the 10 best photos in hard copy in case of electronics failure. And defo paper copies of essential documents.

I'm not in the US, so I'd assume social security and health insurance was country specific.

Wind up radio and torch are a good shout tho.

So my postman makes inappropriate, flirty comments to my girlfriend when she is home alone.. recently she answered in a towel and he said "let's have a look then" while looking her up and down...do I confront him about it in a calm way, report him to the Royal Mail or am I overreacting?
