Emetophobia

Anyone else have emetophobia (fear of vomiting) and literally get so anxious when they hear someone coughing?? My boyfriend is in the bathroom rn having a coughing fit and I'm so scared he's going to throw up.😣

The fear has literally frozen me in bed. I want to cry. Any tips from people that have beaten emetophobia??

I remember being like this and being frozen with fear. 6 weeks ago I started CBT therapy through self referral on the NHS as I felt awful that I had to leave the house when my father was staying and was unwell. It is already helping and having a positive impact and I’m very hopefully of finally addressing this phobia. Do consider trying it if you haven’t already done so.
For tonight in the short term, try and stay calm, deep breathing and distract yourself if you can. Hope you can sleep soon.

I've said this elsewhere but - I used to be horrifically emetophobic (although I managed to cope with my kids when they were young). I've now passed menopausal age and I don't know whether it's just because there's less of it around now the kids have left, but I'm a lot more relaxed about it.

I know that basically telling you you might grow out of it doesn't help you now (sorry!), but that's been my experience.

I was like this (still am a bit). To be honest it sounds like it might be an overall free-floating anxiety problem, that then latches on to something specific- once you start to tackle stress/anxiety in your life, your overall fear levels will come down a bit and you should notice that the phobia will recede with it. Might sound like waffle but this was the case for me.
