NDN cutting down shared hedge

I live in a council property, NDN own theirs. They've been doing a lot of DIY for about a year now, and I've just now glanced outside to see half of our shared hedge is gone! Confused
They seem to be getting rid of the entire thing. Surely they can't do that due to one half being council property?
Going to ring them in the morning but until then, do I leave it or go ask them what they think they're doing?

Would the hedge pieces stick back on tomorrow? No. So of course you need to ask today.

You don't need to be aggressive or defensive or confrontational at all. You just need to go out and ask what they're doing. It's rare a hedge is actually shared: more likely it's just on their side so they can do what they like. It's also likely they're replacing it with something they like better.

It would have been courteous to mention it to you first, but they may completely within their rights so ASK WHAT THEIR PLANS ARE NOW.

It can't be shared, it's either owned by them or you. Who's boundary is it on?

It doesn't state in the tenancy agreement who owns the hedge, it just mentions with shared gardens I'm responsible for my side, and since they've always maintained their side and I've maintained mine then I just assumed it was shared Confused
Mrs Hathaway-so if I go round today, the hedge will stick back on? Hmm
I merely wondered whether it was worth challenging them or letting the council deal with it.

I meant there were bits still attached which might be cut off/out/down before tomorrow IYSWIM. Fence panels could be challenged and replaced after the fact but hedge would have to go back in from the roots at £££.
