Which work pattern would you choose?

I have been offered flexible working and given 3 options. Don't know which to choose!

  1. Five mornings, leaving the house at 7.30-teens would have to get themselves out to school. I'd be home when they get in.
  1. Five afternoons, home at 6ish. Would be there for breakfast but they would come home to an empty house every day.
  1. Three long days, out 7.30-6.00, and 2 days off.

Which would you choose?

3 long days for me

scurryfunge · 01/05/2018 15:44

Number one.

wendz86 · 01/05/2018 15:44

I'd go for 1 or 3 depending on how self sufficient teens are.

AssassinatedBeauty · 01/05/2018 15:45

Three long days for me too.

PurplePumpkinPiss · 01/05/2018 15:45

My preference would be 3 long days or the early mornings.

Pinkprincess1978 · 01/05/2018 21:00

As they are older I would do mornings. If my children were younger I would go for the 2 days off.

museumum · 01/05/2018 21:04

Mornings i think. Unless your commute is expensive/stressful in which case the three long days makes more sense.

DairyisClosed · 01/05/2018 21:06

One or three depending on how early you would get home of you were doing mornings.

KirstenRaymonde · 01/05/2018 21:09

I’d choose 3, as I’d get some time to myself and better time to do housework, run errands etc. on the two days off. Doing the food shop is much nicer during a weekday for example compared ro Saturday afternoon.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 01/05/2018 21:11

1 or 3

Hogtini · 01/05/2018 21:12

3

Noboozeforme · 01/05/2018 21:15

I currently do number 1 and have done since DC started secondary school.

If I had the opportunity to, I'd do the three long days.

Lonesurvivor · 01/05/2018 21:23

I did 5 mornings and it was hell. I never felt I had time to do anything properly, everything was squeezed in.
I do three days now and it suits me much better. Leaves way more time to get stuff done and I even see people now.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 01/05/2018 21:28

I think preference for 1 or 3 depends how much your teens would benefit from having you around after school. Currently I would be keen on option 1 as it would mean I could be stricter about bloody ’fortnite’ time. Also leaving them for long days in the school holidays would be a problem whereas mornings would be ok.

Bobbybobbins · 01/05/2018 21:35

Definitely 1 or 3

WomanEqualsAdultHumanFemale · 01/05/2018 21:38

Preferably 3.

I used to do afternoons and hated it because my days were wasted waiting for work to start. It felt like I could fit nothing in in the mornings. I’d rather have two full days off.

BackforGood · 01/05/2018 21:56

If your teens are like dc1, I'd have to go for the working afternoons option, or he'd never get to school.
If your teens are like my dcs2 and 3, I'd go for the 2 days off.
I like my days when I just don't have to do any work at all.

That said, it depends what you do of course. Some jobs are easier to do for long stretches than others. Also depends on what proportion of that is your commute. With a long commute, it's preferable (IMO) to do it as infrequently as possible.

EmmaC78 · 01/05/2018 21:59

I would go for the three long days or the mornings.

user1483390742 · 02/05/2018 05:27

Thanks all. Think i might choose 5 mornings. My commute is 20 mins so not an issue.

Depends if you're a morning person. I'd choose the afternoons. Wake up lazily. I think 5 days though. I'd dread the long days far too much.

Mannix · 02/05/2018 05:57

I’d go for option 3 personally.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/05/2018 05:58

I'd go for the mornings. I'm a morning person though and I'd be flagging by the end of a long day (I'd probably be ok if I was working from home)

Pleasebeafleabite · 02/05/2018 05:58

I think I’d do the mornings you are then there when they get home from school and available to feed them

I speak from experience mine just gorage for junk until I get in

TenGinBottles · 02/05/2018 11:38

3 as it would allow me to do day trips with the DC in the holidays although, depending on the commute, I would consider 1.
