Hi all.
Firstly hope I've posted in the correct section.
I've seen a few threads regarding MK but nothing recent.
We are planning on moving out of London possibly Milton Keynes as in not too far ams can easily commute.
We went on the weekend to have a look around and I quite liked it. Really liked the West belt and really likes the new builds. I've also got 4 children, 1 in secondary 1 in primary and 1 going into reception on September and a baby, so most important are schools. Where are the best schools and is it difficult to get into outstanding schools as they are probably oversubscribed? That my fear as all my girls are now in outstanding schools. The reason for moving is being able to afford a bigger place and hoping for a better lifestyle.
I know a lot of people have moved from London, I'd you e moved from London any regrets?? Would you move back to London?
Thank you all Smile

I think if you've visited and you like it, go for it.

We looked into mk recently but it's not for us. We don't drive and needed somewhere close to London with everything in walking distance / close to train station. Went for Hertfordshire in the end!

It’s 30 mins to Euston. Better than living in Watford if you are planning on commuting to London or Birmingham or even Manchester (the latter can be done in under 2 hours).

MK gets virtually no traffic as all the artery roads are national speed limit dual carriageways.

Best areas for commuters are the medieval villages: Loughton, Shenley Brook End, Shenley Church End. All of them are in ‘out of catchment’ for both Buckingham /Aylesbury grammar schools BUT MK students nearly always get a place as they can’t fill spots with local kids. This may change as there is a huge housing development now towards Buckingham.

I've heard it has broadband issues but that it's due to be resolved this year. Perhaps look into that and whether the fix will cover the whole of MK or at least the areas you're keen on.

I get super fast broadband, enough to support two people that work from home.

TheSpottedZebra · 02/05/2018 10:33

I don't think that MK has broadband issues, George - the update this year is that Mk will become the first location to be enabled with city - wide ultrafast FTTP broadband.

1234Sam, have you moved and settled in MK?
We are also moving from London to MK for the same reasons you.
We are moving this summer and we have still to apply for primary school and find a nursery. It is difficult to choose not being from there and just relying on what I have read or hear... anyway we are hoping for the best and hopefully our move will be well worth it!
