Hi..this isn't about my child, it's about my niece who was staying with me tonight but she started getting sick( her mum and dad went out ) she had got into bed and was watching cartoons and I kept asking if she was okay and did she need to use the loo etc but she kept saying no. I then went over to her to see she has went to the toliet on the bed and looked terrible. Her mum came and got her and left in a taxi (she lives just 2 mins up the road) I then got a call from my sister who was so embarrassed and upset, my niece was sick in the taxi but my sister caught nearly all of it in a blanket apart one one tint bit that hit the floor of the taxi, the taxi man then charged my sister 50 pound and made her go in and get a wash cloth and who the bit of sick up.

I'm wondering if anyone else has any thoughts? Is that what she was meant to Do? I mean it was a tony little piece and ale cleaned it up but still had to pay 50 pound for her daughter who is 2 and isn't well? I live in belfast . So if anyone knows what's right and what's wrong here could you help me out please?

It’s pretty standard- although is at the discretion of the driver I’d imagine. There is still the smell and the seats would still have to be washed, taking the cab out of action and loosing other fares because of it.

Heratnumber7 · 07/04/2018 02:33

I think that's fair enough. He'll need to get the cab properly cleaned.

Yes, it will need to be cleaned. Any residual vomit in a car is going to smell awful and the car is his business.

I know a taxi driver and the standard fee for vomit is £100. So £50 sounds reasonable to me.

I’m very sorry for your niece, poor wee thing.

A charge for vomiting in a taxi is bog standard I’m afraid. Even if she cleaned it up the taxi still needs cleaned and the driver will lose fares.

It is his business.

It is his business and his income, and vomit stinks! He will just want to get his cab cleaned and I couldn't clean a strangers sick up either Sad but having said that £50 seems steep but prob is the standard nowadays as it's expensive to get a car valeted. Hope she's better soon Thanks

My niece gets car sick and my sister can't drive, she has had to pay at least £300 towards cleaning taxis in the past 18 months.

That's pretty standard. My DH is a taxi driver and they charge 60 if someone makes a mess in the taxi. Maybe he works for a company and he has to charge it because they will get it cleaned when he drops off. They have to take the car off the road as well.

Sorry your niece is sick but yes it's standard to pay a fine for being sick in a taxi.
The driver won't be able to do any more jobs until it's deep cleaned ( the scent of vomit lingers for ages even with a little bit from the floor ) which means they lose money and have to pay for a detail as well, £50 is more than reasonable IMO.
