Hire a kitchen fitter or clear some debt

My Parents have given me £2000 saying we want you to hire a kitchen fitter. I am a single parent of 4 and it's taken a long while to save up the money but I've done it and bought a desperately needed kitchen complet with a cooker (I haven't had one in about a year), fridge, freezer, dishwasher but i havent yet got worktop or flooring. The plan was to for my cousin and i to fit it (we did the last one 20+ years ago) and just get someone in for the hob and oven but my parents in particular my DF hinks in requires a professional. I feel guilty thinking abouy lying to them and using the money to buy the worktop etc, fitting it myself and clearing some debts but I feel guilty considering hiring a kitchen fitter knowing I could use the money to get us out of a bit of trouble. WWYD?

Given the money was specifically given for a fitter, I hunk that you should use it for that. Or explain to your parents hat the money would instead buy the countertops and flooring which you would prefer to do as making more sense to you. They may be disappointed if they found out that you hadn’t used it in the manner they had leant it to you.

That's what I am worried about. I don't want to upset them or cause a row. Just feel guilty either way Sad

Can you explain why your way makes more sense? That you’ve done it before- will be careful, but that the difference that kind gift could make in other area would make life easier?

do they know you have debts?

I can't see why they'd prioritise a kitchen fitter if you can sort it yourself, it makes much more sense to pay the debt.
