How do I post a picture? I've been trying to work this out as I want some feedback on some art done by a child.. is this possible?

Could you give us some back ground info into why you think they could be disturbing?

AdoraBell · 19/03/2018 11:04

Difficult to answer without some context.

FranMath · 19/03/2018 11:19

Yes there was abuse. Person reports traumatic childhood with father in control of everything, night terrors through much of childhood and an incestuous sibling sexual relationship starting quite young as children were sexualised. Anyway this is not current, person is adult now. I was just interested if anyone saw what I was seeing in these pictures. Not one mother apart from wedding scene. I do find the concept of children expressing things they can't say through art interesting although ad people have pointed out this can just be imagination and balanced healthy children can draw some dark stuff!

They all look perfectly normal to me. Why does the wedding one seem wrong? In what way?

Soubriquet · 19/03/2018 11:21

No. If I didn't know any abuse was going on, I wouldn't have been indicated by those drawings or stories

So I think your knowledge is probably allowing you to look further into it and probably seeing something

SparklyMagpie · 19/03/2018 11:28

Same as Soubriquet, if you hadn't given the background then no, I don't think I'd see anything particular.

That childhood is heartbreaking though :(

A lot of fairy stories eg Disney involve absent mothers (because they're dead) and reluctant brides eg Aladdin.

The middle one with the manmoon is probably the darkest one, imo. I'd like to understand what that's about only because, from my own kids' drawings', the wedge-like beams coming out of the eyes tended to be tears/crying. So the Bedtime Stories one was the only one that slightly raised an eyebrow.
I'm watching this thread with interest because of my own DD, her nightmares which are, as she puts it, ruining her life, and her very dark drawings- much darker than these. Her dad encourages this sort of 'goth' stuff which I am against. She's only 8 and I think dad has decided we have a little goth on our hands. We don't. We have an (almost) 8 year old with an active imagination. But her drawings in the past month do worry me.

Jesus, and that. Yes. Absolutely. Families! They're supposed to be our sanctuary.
