Husband has been made redundant. Please help with cut back ideas?

So my husband has been made redundant. We work for the same company, he was full time and I am part time since having the baby. He was a manager and I am a supervisor. Many managers have been made redundant across the company.

I obviously now need to see if the company will let me go full time. Husband is looking for a job non stop.

We need to cut back and be frugal, I thought we were quite good but we need to do better! I am terrible at buying any old crap and I need to stop!
Does anyone have any ideas? Any tips?

We have a house on shared ownership. A mortgage on 50% and rent the other 50%.

I feel so numb and I'm trying to stay focused and plan. We've never claimed any kind of benefit (part from standard child benefit) and I feel so lost.

Sorry to hear your dh has been made redundant.

You might get more help if you look over here

There are lots of already existing threads about how to save money, and lots of expertise over there.

Also have a look at MoneySaving Expert.com - Martyn Lewis's site.

Things that have helped me:

Switch your bank account to one where they offer a reward for switching

Shop around for energy suppliers and phone

Do your shopping online (saves us loads and stops me buying shite)

Make meals you can double up (e.g. Double batch of bolognese and turn leftovers into chilli)

Rent spare room on air bnb if you have one

Sell clothes on eBay

He can apply for universal credit or job seekers allowance if in UK (contributions based). It cannot be back dated so apply now.

Make an appointment to speak to someone at Citizens’ Advice. They will be able to work out if you’re entitled to any benefits or other support.

Ive started using student meal recipes. They are mostly basic and use cheap ingredients.
