Want to send food for friend when baby comes

I'd like to send some nice prepared meals to a friend as they are due their first baby by C section next week.

We live about 200 miles away though so can't think how to do this. They're in Bristol. Has anyone got any ideas for how to do this?

We have some local small companies that do this sort of thing, maybe have a google and see if you can find something local to them? Failing that, wait til they're home and ask them for a good time for a gift to be delivered (make it clear you're not weaseling your way in for a visit Grin ) then book an Ocado delivery with lots of lovely fresh, quick to cook or pre-prepped stuff.

A mumsnet chain Grin.... theres a twirl thread like this .... anybody that lives close would be willing to deliver to said friend ... you pay in kind (pass it on) kinda thing or pay in spondulas ... xxx

Cook? They do lovely home cooked frozen meals and deliver

inappropriateraspberry · 24/02/2018 09:35

A supermarket delivery full of luxury ready meals and treats. Make sure they can be frozen though, as they may not eat them immediately.

NameChange30 · 24/02/2018 09:38

Another vote for Cook vouchers. Their ready meals are delicious, next best thing after home made.
I would give vouchers rather than order for them tbh, best if they can choose and make sure they will be home for delivery, have space in the fridge/freezer etc.

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2018 09:43

Not vouchers! A friend (local) bought us 2 days worth of M&S ready meals when dc2 was born. All we had to do was microwave. No way would I have got it together to go online and order anything.

redexpat · 24/02/2018 09:46

Just eat voucher?

NameChange30 · 24/02/2018 09:46

How long ago was that Bike?
I’ve spent a lot of time online shopping on my iPhone while breastfeeding or holding a sleeping baby.

onalongsabbatical · 24/02/2018 09:47

Here's the link for Cook, which is in Bristol, Whiteladies Road, and delivers. www.cookfood.net/shops/clifton

OuchBollocks · 24/02/2018 09:49

If you order a Cook voucher now, they can stock their freezer before the baby comes. It'll give them something to do in the pre baby jittery phase. And if they've already batch cooked to the max, a voucher doesn't need freezer room!

EssentialHummus · 24/02/2018 10:11

Another vote for Cook.

I wish I had friends like you 😩

MagicFajita · 24/02/2018 10:24

Why not do her an online shop from Ocado? A friend of mine did that for her dd when she had a child. That way you can send ready meals , nappies , wipes and other baby things too.

seven201 · 24/02/2018 10:49

My friends sent me some frozen meals from an online company that does this stuff. Was a night mate trying to find space in the freezer and they didn't taste nice. They all got eaten eventually but with Ocado etc it's easy to order food in when you need it. I'm not saying don't do it and I really appreciated the gesture, just chose the company/meals carefully.

flugelhorn3 · 24/02/2018 10:51

I came on to say Cook too!

Cloudyapples · 24/02/2018 10:52

Another vote for cook! Lovely food!

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2018 14:07

AnotherEmma she’s 6 now. I did have a smartphone /online shopping at the time though. Maybe other people are not a badly affected by birth and newborns as me.

restingbemusedface · 24/02/2018 14:10

I did a cook order for my friends - ordered a few days of meals. They were ecstatic

Not quite the same but when a friend had her baby, another friend sent a tray of frosted cup cakes so they’d have something easy on hand to give visitors who called to see the baby. A nice touch

LoniceraJaponica · 24/02/2018 14:18

What a lovely thing to do. I think vouchers are the way to go so they can choose their own meals as I found that when I ate peppers or any "windy" foods DD got terrible colic (she was exclusively BF to start with)
