Which job should dh take? Money or long term prospects?

So after a long hard year of literally hundreds, probably even thousands of job applications dh has been offered 2 jobs. Which is great. Except it’s not obvious which one he should go for.

Money is tight for us (we aren’t completely skint but had hoped that this job move would mean more money). One job is quite a bit more money it would change the way we could live- an extra £500 a month take home. The other job is a more senior role with potentially better job prospects but no more money than he is currently on.

He is making a complete career change at this stage and doesn’t plan to remain in either role for more than a couple of years before he moves on again.

Wwyd?

If he took the more senior role would that look better on his cv in future? Why’s he only planning to stay there for a couple of years?

I would play hardball and tell them that it's not worth the extra responsibility and I'd need a salary of xxy (equal or greater to the other job) to make it worth my while.
If they run scared he can take the other job and at least he tried but tbh if the other job is more senior I wouldn't want to work there for the same money I'm on now (if I was your Dh) I often find it will correlate in how they see their staff too (ie, not worth much) so it's a risk on that side of things, too.

The higher paid one is a consultant role the other is a working within public sector (hence less pay) as it’s public sector they can’t really be flexible with pay.

He only plans to be there for a couple of years as he’s seen how much money there is to be made by moving around etc and doing contract roles (something he’ll look to do after this coming role). It sounds like we’re really money grabbing but we’ve struggled financially and he’s been severely underpaid for his current role so it’s actually a big issue for us.

Take the consultant role in that case - its what he wants to do and the increased security in public sector isn't worth much if he doesn't plan to be there for more than a couple years.
