it's oh birthday coming up and just looking for ideas of what gifts you have bought that went down the best I'm trying to think outside the box it's been a super tough year and we didn't do much for last years birthdays/Christmas.

A wildlife camera? Depends where you live, obviously, but you put it in the garden and it records anything that moves, day or night. Lots of hedgehogs, birds and cats but not much else so far. Enjoys going through the pictures every day just to check though!

Other things that have gone down well are a brewery tour, and a Fitbit.

Need2morehands · 03/01/2018 21:04

Unfortunately for now we live in a busy town so have high concrete and wooden fence panels (very unwildlife friendly I know). He doesn't drink, and he's got a Fitbit. I find men very hard to buy for.

DHs birthday is in a week. He's obsessed with Japanese food so I've bought him a ceramic ramen bowl with matching spoon and chopsticks. Sounds boring bit I think he will love them! Have also bought him a ramen cook book, along with a photoframe and bamboo socks from the kids. Will probably get a bottle of whisky too.

I treated DH to a long weekend in Vienna, that was his favourite gift. Others that he has liked are tickets to a show, a dashcam for his car, an iPod and sound bar for the telly.

Tickets to theatre/ gig/ comedy night?
Weekend break in a nice hotel?

tarheelbaby · 03/01/2018 21:12

For birthdays, we usually have a fancy restaurant dinner and each helps the DDs organise some token gift from them - socks, perfume, et al.

Agree that it can be tough to choose presents for men if they don't have a hobby, like golf, that requires expendables. For the last few years, I have encouraged DH to take us on a mini-break for Christmas/anniversary. The DDs tried a cinema voucher but the films of 2017 did not really grab him, even with a voucher!

Indoor sky diving. His was for a place in Milton Keynes but there centres all over the country. Cost was around £30 for an introduction session. Great fun. Brilliant photo ops. Ps - I didn’t join in, but did enjoy recording it all for posterity.

Presents that have gone down well include

Cards against humanity
Cinema and a meal (babysitter also arranged)
Ghost hunting tickets
Theatre tickets
Go kart racing tickets
Escape room
Football stadium tour
Brewery tour

I used to get him a weekend away but now second dc is here it's not an option this year. He doesn't drink or have any hobbies apart from playing coaching and watching football. He loves all take away food but nothing really I can gift him with along those lines

A Bose WiFi speaker went down bestGrin

He likes tickets to a gig too or a VERY nice meal out.

A vintage nautical telescope. He is neither a sailor or particularly old but he loved it all the same.Smile

Sixcatsandcounting · 18/01/2018 00:44

Paid for a holiday to Marrakesh for us for his 25th birthday, for Xmas 2016 I got him 3 sets of tickets for his favourite band and hotels to stay in - I think he definitely appreciated that more than the holiday!! This year for Xmas we were strapped for cash so just got him a few bits and he was really happy with Just bits and bobs. For his birthday in a couple of weeks he’s asked for a box to keep his vinyls in and some decals to decorate it! Cheap one this year! It all depends on what hobbies/interests they have. Sometimes little bits with a lot of thought go down better than something extravagant

Mollypolly2610 · 18/01/2018 01:30

Bought mine a kilo of silver. Huge nugget. He loves it and it’s an investment. (Although he doesn’t have any hobbies now)

DontCallMeCharlotte · 20/01/2018 12:25

A bird of prey experience was one my DH loved (he got to fly them). Perhaps a replica vintage football shirt? Agree, buying for men is a bloody nightmare!

orangeisafruitandcolour · 20/01/2018 12:36

Cook school/ cocktail making
Print of a place significant to us
Remembering something he mentioned a while ago that he liked them getting it for him like a book, music or special food.
Magazine subscription
Massage oil and a weekly promise to use it😉

browneyesblue · 20/01/2018 12:43

Not something I bought for him - he bought it for himself, but I think it would have made a great gift so I've recommended it often over the years. A set of lock picks, and locks to practice on. DH is neither a locksmith nor a criminal, but spent many happy hours learning how to pick a lock!

An automatic watch winder so his kinetic watch keeps time.
