Would you use your 3yr old's Xmas money to buy necessities and replace it later?

If you had no money whatsoever, but had your 3yr old's Christmas money and needed milk etc, would you use it and replace it two days later on pay day? Or would you never dream of doing such a thing?

Yes I think that’s fine. I would do the same.

ijustwannadance · 02/01/2018 12:23

Yes, definately.

MillennialFalcon · 02/01/2018 12:24

Yes, better than going without basics and they won't even know if you're sure you can replace it.

Yep. Even if you couldn't replace it.

user187656748 · 02/01/2018 12:26

Yes definitely. In fact we cleared out the DCs savings accounts to buy our house (and then paid it back of course)

Cakescakescakes · 02/01/2018 12:26

Yes and have done this before.

EvilCleverDog · 02/01/2018 12:26

Just had to borrow £20 from my 14 year old, so yes!

PinkHeart5914 · 02/01/2018 12:26

Yes but I would replace it as it was a gift to the ds, , not his parents for milk etc

UnitedKungdom · 02/01/2018 12:29

Yes, and if you couldn't replace it I wouldn't worry at all. You will give many treats and toys and financial support in your child's future. If they need to help out occasionally to buy milk for the household when it's strapped then I think it's an appropriate use of funds.

thepatchworkcat · 02/01/2018 12:32

Yes if I was struggling. DC won’t know at this age and I’m sure would rather eat and drink today!

MotherofaSurvivor · 02/01/2018 12:33

Oh of course it will certainly be replaced! The toy that it's going to be spent on is out of stock anyway, so have to wait for that to be available again.

Just waiting for someone to come along and call be a terrible Mum for being out of money! However it's not a regular occurrence! Her Dad hasn't paid the maintenance and a direct debit went out twice! 🤦🏼‍♀️

We're not out of everything, but I like to always have lots of milk and basics. I would sell everything I have before my child went without anything at all. I have NEVER not had milk & food for her. Never.

PrimalLass · 02/01/2018 12:34

Yes I would.

EmmaC78 · 02/01/2018 12:34

Yes, I think that is totally fine.

MotherofaSurvivor · 02/01/2018 12:35

Despite being disabled & on benefits. I've gone without food before to enable her to have what she needs. As I'm sure any mother would!

Thanks for your input! X

I've had to spend DC money on several occasions and haven't always been able to replace it. Savings for a 3 year old is nice to have, but not if you can't buy milk, nappies or feed yourself.

Equimum · 02/01/2018 12:41

Yes. When DS1 was born, we had just bought our first house, acquired a huge vet bill and our car went bang. We used all the money he was given as birth gifts, and even spent Boots vouchers on essentials for all of us. We later paid it all back with interest. It is more important that you all have what you need in the short term.

lynmilne65 · 02/01/2018 14:30

No

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 02/01/2018 14:32

Yes, of course. It wouldn't be common sense not to.

LML83 · 02/01/2018 14:38

Of course i would. I borrow from by dd to pay the window cleaner regularly as I haven't had cash on me.

NoqontroI · 02/01/2018 14:41

Yes of course.

SparklyMagpie · 05/01/2018 11:29

lynmilne65 why wouldn't you?!

Surely it's more important to have essentials in for your children, plus paying it back
