DH work van can't take two car seats

Some advice please. DH has a Nissan prima star van as he has his own business that requires machinery. We have recently had our 2nd child. And he is going to have them both one day in the week when I go back to work.
We can't see any way to get two car seats into the front seat which is a bench seat. He says that there is no van on the market that can take two car seats in the front next to the driver. I'm not convinced but am up to my eyes in new baby plus toddler.
Do I allow him to buy an additional car which we can ill afford? Does anyone have a van with two car seats in the front?
What would you do?
Thanks so much Grin

I've got a vw transporter. I could try my car seats on the front seat if you'd like.
I've got a Joie Stages for my older one and a Joie I-anchor for the younger one.

Have you been to Halfords with a tape measure to check the width of the various child seats. We definitely had two boosters on the front bench seat but had to choose carefully.

I’ve seen the in car safety centre recommend a lot, maybe they could advise on suitable seats for your current van?

Thinking about it I've got two of the later stage car seats in my transporter before but the clip where the belt clicks into was behind the seat so I wasn't happy that they were actually safe. It was also a bugger to get them in and out.

is yours a long wheel base? Just thinking a crew cab and long wheel base?

We tried to hire a Renault master once as we needed the extra width, enterprise told us we were really lucky as they upgraded us to a merc sprinter instead. Bloody thing didn't fit in the merc, but fitted in the Renault.

Thank you for all the comments, DH has to drive the van as he has lots of equipment to take on his jobs each day and therefore a crew cab or swb van with extra seats would then not leave enough rear room for his gear. Sadly the same problem for removable seats as they would be in and out 3 days a week and no where to keep them.
We already have the narrowest HBB for DS but happy to buy the narrowest stage 1 seat we can find for DD as we don’t have one for her yet for the van. From seeing a car seat specialist I think we need 90cm to fit two car seats safely, if anyone could measure the bench seats in their vans that would be really helpful!
Unfortunately we looked at the vw crafter but as it is so new it’s a bit over budget.

How did you get on?

I'm looking at the Ford Transit Connect with a bench seat and would need to drive a 4 and 7 year old at times, so interested if you have any advice or tips!?

My DH is a self employed decorator and is the main carer for our 2 dc's. They are now 8&9. He's had a Fiat Scudo for around 5 years and no problems getting two full backed car seats in the front. Chose this van specifically to fit in two car seats as he does the majority of the school runs. HTH.
