Cancel my dm or my friends

Hello,
My Mam is so needy of my time, she rings 2-3 times a day wants to spend any day of with me. This week i've just got back from a weeks holiday with dp, she kept saying how much she's missed me and can't wait till I'm home.

Anyway my friends rang to see if i was free to go out for drinks tomorrow, I agreed thinking it's the one day my dm sees her friend, plus I wanted to get out and have a catch up with my friends. Now my Dm has said she's seeing her friend today, do we can do something tomorrow!

Need to cancel one and think it'll be my friends, can't stand the guilt trip, or she'll just invite herself with a bunch of people she doesn't know. I'm not at work Saturday, but this will be spent with dm too!

Don't cancel on your friends

tell your dm you have already made plans. you should not have to be her social life. don't tell her where you are going.

I'd stick to the trad rule of honouring the prior engagement. Which means you see your friends and tell your DMum you're sorry but you have plans and suggest some alternative times.

And remember - she's seeing friends too. It's ok for her and it's ok for you.

I know I don't want too. If she got invited anywhere tomorrow she wouldn't hestitate to drop me

You've not made a plan with your Mum, so there is nothing to cancel. "Sorry Mum, already got plans. Looking forward to hearing what you've been up to while we've been away on Sat"

You made arrangements first with your friends. So that is the plan.

See your friends.
