Cheating SILs baby shower

My pregnant SIL has left her husband (BIL) for another man after a short affair. The husband is devastated and is trying to win her back. It's her baby shower in a few weeks and I've been invited. I don't want to go, because of what she's done. Plus, there will naturally be talk of the father as very few people know what's going on. She's quite brazen, so she'll probably say she's got a new father for the poor baby.

Should I go, in case she decides to get back with her husband in the future? Also, I know her family will declare that my family are clearly not interested in the baby if we're not there. They're not the nicest people. I don't want anyone thinking that of us.

Should I tactfully say no, make an excuse or be honest and say I can't because I dislike what she's done? I say she's left, but she hasn't officially split with her hubs really. They're still having takeaways and film nights even though she's been spending nights with this new man and even took him to a family party!

Yes, the baby is the husband's.

Is she your husband's sister?
Or your husband's brother's ex-wife?
If the former I would go.
The latter, then not.

Husband' brother's ex? And who fathered the baby? BIL or the new bloke?

How about "Fuck no lady, I wouldn't go to this Jeremy Kyle shitstorm shower if you paid me"?

"No thank you"

I think this is a clear case of least said, the better. You do not have to explain yourself.

Such a shame you are double booked!! You would have loved to be there but unfortunately you have prior arrangements. If only you had known about it sooner... Wink

PurpleDaisies · 19/08/2017 23:32

Just say you're not able to come and leave it at that. I'm surprised you're invited given she's ditched her family link to you.

I was invited to a baby shower where I only knew one other person aside from the expectancy Mum, she and I didn't see eye to eye. I simply replied with 'Thank you for the invite but I'm not able to attend' left the because I'm too anti-social to be in a room full of strangers unsaid I met up with the Mum after she'd had the baby and gave a gift then!

No, you don't have to go. Just say you're unable to go. No excuse is sometimes better than a lame excuse.

Ameliablue · 20/08/2017 17:31

I'd be tempted to go, to find out what's she's telling people about bil and new bloke.
