A questionable yoghurt...

I've found a muller corner on the fridge with a date of 25th July. Would you eat it? I've eaten plenty of questionable food in the past and seem to have a particularly strong stomach...

No, it might be fine, but no.

Livedandlearned · 12/08/2017 22:38

Yeah I would

martiniwini · 12/08/2017 22:46

It was nice, one of those with the little chocolate biscuits on the side Smile

Yup. Well, I'd open it, smell it, taste a bit, and if all was well I'd hoover it down. As long as it is still sealed and has been kept refridgerated it should be fine.
FWIW, on 9 April this year I ate a yoghurt with a use by date of 1 November 2016. It was lovely and I'm still here!

LazaUbi · 13/08/2017 00:42

No way!

tigercub50 · 13/08/2017 00:51

Definitely not

Hunkle · 13/08/2017 00:59

18 days..No I couldn't

martiniwini · 13/08/2017 07:43

Harriet you legend! My Grandad ignored dates on yoghurt and cheese, on the understanding that they were 'already off'. I like to think I owe some of my excellent immune system and good gut bacteria to him. Grin

welshweasel · 13/08/2017 07:47

Of course. Unless the top was bulging.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 13/08/2017 07:49

I totally would. Best before and use by dates are set more by lawyer than food chemist Grin

martiniwini · 13/08/2017 09:56

I agree Hearts and I usually go by sense of sight and smell rather than a date. Smile

If a yoghurt is off the top bulges so far it's not it's fine to eat

martiniwini · 13/08/2017 13:51

This one was bulging.... I had to pop the top! It almost looked alive Grin

Alexandra87 · 13/08/2017 14:22

Eeeew. I take it you didn't eat it then?

martiniwini · 14/08/2017 11:15

Of course I did! It wasn't mouldy...

Yoghurt keeps for weeks past it's official use-by date, and live yogurts even longer if they're sealed and in a fridge. They just get more yoghurty.
Sell-by dates on cheese are just a good opportunity to get the nice stuff at half price.

Callitquits · 14/08/2017 15:20

Shock I wouldn't have eaten it, but that's just me! I'm really fussy with dates. If it's past it's use by or even best before then it puts me off.

Do you not have a local shop where you could have just got some more?? Hahaha

PsychoPumpkin · 14/08/2017 19:56

You'll have to let us know if you survive Grin

martiniwini · 15/08/2017 07:36

At 10pm when my kids are in bed? Besides I'd never pay local shop prices for a mullet corner!
People that buy into the whole dates thing and follow them so scrupulously make me laugh, your senses are a much better indication of whether food is edible or not. Dates are way over cautious. Especially on things like yoghurt.

martiniwini · 15/08/2017 07:37

Oh I survived psycho Grin .... it'll take more than a talking yoghurt to kill me off.
